I'm not spiritual but nearly my whole family is. Is that normal?

I'm atheist - but due to an elective course I took while completing my engineering degree (titled: Personal Health, Wellness, and Potential) I found out I was also quite spiritual... in that I had a healthy awareness of the people around me, the environment, and how my actions (or in-actions) can affect everyone and everything else.

Check out the Wikipedia page on Spirituality: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirituality it goes into things like the "... spiritual consequences of quantum physics."

There is this black lady who I work with that attacks my atheism with such vigor. These folks are hypocrites. Do not let it get you down. Most importantly believe in yourself and you wont go wrong.

Lack of religion does not mean you cannot still be spiritual.I personally am fascinated by not knowing where it all came from. Why limit the possibilities of what you believe in?

being in tune with God (or gods, depending on your belief) has nothing to do with what your family thinks. it's about you. do research, ask yourself questions and try to answer them for yourself, it doesn't hurt to seek advice from others as well. look at multiple aspects and go full on.

Sure it's normal. I'd personally have more in common with you than with your family.

if u take away the spiritual part of this your left with

"i'm nothing like the rest of my family"

which is actually very normal! i'm nothin like my family... they're all quite old fashioned and i'm very modern. and i havnt even inherited this... i was probably jst moulded from society more. maybe you mwere too.

Research has shown that there is a specific brain area that is involved in the experience of spirituality. Your temporal lobe (where this area is located) is simply wired differently that those of your more spiritual or religious family.

This is not a bad thing. You are more likely to be good a science as you naturally require evidence to believe in something.

And remember, at the end of the day, if there is a God, He/She/It made you the way your are. Be proud of it and utilize it to better yourself.
