I'm not american yet i know all the us state capitals. is this normal

I'm actually Canadian, yet for some reason I seem to have memorized all the USA state capitals, and I could recall 99% of them at a given time (100% if it is a multiple choice test). Is this normal?

No it's not normal. Go see a doctor. Be sure to emphasize to him that you think you may be suffering from "attenionseekingchildasksstupidquestiononinternet" syndrome.

So what? I'm not European, but I know the capitals of all European countries.

Well, then you are doing better than most Americans. I know them all too, but I am American.

    • It was probably because of my strange depression resulting from learning that US state capitals are not usually their largest cities.

        That is interesting.

When I was young, I assumed the biggest city was always the capital of a state/province/country until I learnt that the capital of my country wasn't the biggest city.

Intrigued, I did some research and found out that the biggest city was the original capital but moved to the centre of the country when there was threats from the southern provinces demanding succession.

From my understanding the capital of Canada was moved to Ottawa due to the original capital being quite close to the US border. I think this occurred after the War of 1812.

        • Yeah, but at least Toronto is the provincial capital of Ontario.

Yeah it is odd like that. My state's largest city happens to be the capital though. The stuck a lot of the capitals near the middle of the states. When you have oceans, lakes and other geographic features around, those places are bound to become more populated.

Here's a pretty cool quiz I just found. It's timed for 4 minutes and you name as many states as you can.

I got 48/50, I missed Nebraska and Iowa....

I know them, but it's not normal. I don't think most Americans could name even half of the states, let alone the capitals.
