Is it normal to be annoyed with estate agents. They all seem like money grabbing slimeballs!

I'm currently trying to find a flat to rent and all the agents I go through either seem to be pressure sellers, smug money lovers and/or very unhelpful. They're just people at the end of the day and I'm sure that outside of work they are nice enough, but why do they have to be so slimy when they're on the job?

    They're selling something you need right now. I'm sure you'd think the same thing about a car or coffin salesman.

    I'm a real estate agent and I can tell you that people treat RE agents like shit all the time. They get shown 10 houses and bail to another agent at the last minute to close the deal. They cuss you out when you offer to sell their houses for them. They tell you they don't need your BS. If people didn't walk all over RE agents, they wouldn't develop the habits you mention, which are really just survival mechanisms(pressure selling, etc). For every 1 sale, they get screwed by the client 5 times. Still, not all agents are out to short-change the customer.
