I'm from a conservative home yet us sexual conservatism surprises me

I was raised in a fairly conservative and religious household in Canada. Both of my parents were from sexually conservative societies, and compared to most people I know, we are considered very conservative. To this day, I still carry many sexually conservative beliefs from my upbringing. That being said, a lot of the things I hear coming out from the conservatives in the USA when socializing online strikes me as overly prudish and extreme, and even my family agrees. Is that normal?

P.S. I am not trying to generalize all Americans or degrade the USA, nor am I trying to offend anyone. I know the USA is quite divided on the issue too.
