I'm asian and i call myself "oriental". iin?

My family and I call ourselves "oriental" people. Frankly, I find the term "Asian" too broad (unless you want to exclude Indians and Pakistanis). I find it stupid that the term "oriental" is considered offensive. I'd rather be called that than "Asian". Obviously, I wouldn't want to be called "chink" or any racial slur like that, but I still prefer to be called "oriental", and it's not even trying to re-appropriate that term. Is that normal for Asians?

I agree with Frosties ... It conjures up images of all things good, which is So SO much for people of your heritage. I am Australian and it is not an offensive term here.

It depends. In North America, it's seen as offensive but in the rest of the world, it isn't. If you live in North America you could always say Eastern or Far Eastern, because that's effectively what it means. Or you could narrow it to the country of your birth, i.e. Chinese.

I'm from the rest of the world and I personally like the word oriental as an adjective for food, style, geography or people. To me, it reminds me of all the things which are good. I think it's a very positive thing that someone would refer to themselves as oriental.

Wait I didn't know the term Oriental was offensive. Well I too personally would prefer the word Oriental than Asian. People nowadays always use the word Asian to stereotype and it mostly refers to East/Southeast Asians; they forget that people in Central and South Asia are also called "asians".

Yes. I'm not Asian, but I get called "a Mexican" at times and it really bothers me. As well I don't want to be aclled a beaner or anything like that but the way its said bugs me. I'd rather be called Latino or Hispanic honestly.
