I'm always taken aback by mean elderly people!

No matter how many times I've encountered a mean old person, I'm still always surprised when it happens! It's something I just can't get used to or see coming. I even have a kind of mean grandmother and so does my husband and still it surprises me that an old person can be downright nasty!!

Is it normal to still be surprised every time I encounter a mean, nasty old person?

See past the wrinkles! They were rotten children, teenagers, parents and grandparents who got no pleasure out of their children or life in general. If they haven't learnt any manners by now, they don't deserve respect coz they got old. They'll be fertiliser soon - and at least be of some use to mankind!

  • You'd think at their age they'd have learned to treat people better. I know kids with better manners than some of my old relatives. Who knows though, when I'm 90 I might say "the hell with it" and tell everyone exactly what I'm thinking too, before I die =P

Well, i'm mean too so they get their act together with me real fast. I dont take that stuff from old people... cant stand it. My grandmother included. She cant ask you do do anything nicely which is why a lot of times i dont do things for her. Plus when you do anything nice for her, there was always something you did wrong...really? AIGHT i got an idea...why dont you stand up on those rickety knees of yours and do it yourself...there...

    off my soapbox

I think they just know something we don't know...they're way of thinking is different. Old people can do no wrong in my eyes. They can be as cranky as they want.. We'll all be there someday, and it'll happen fast.

This reminds me of a story my brother told me about his job (courtesy clerk/box boy at a grocery chain). He basically said he was bagging groceries for this old man and asked if he needed help. The old man snapped "no", and as he turned to leave, he told my brother "I hate you because you're young". My brother and I got a good laugh out of how absurd and uncalled for the comment was. It's just one example out of many about how unnecessarily cruel old people can be.

Definitely. Crows feet don't make you wiser/happier/better off/entitled.

Some people need to get their act together, especially when most of us would do out our way for an older person.
Ones in my city NEVER smile, and complain our generation is full of shits? Ha

  • Their impending doom probably has them in an impatient and cranky mood. It could be possible that they are experiencing the early stages of dementia. I find them very unpredictable.
