I'm afraid/embarrassed to go the gym

i am a "skinny fat" girl and I've been following a workout plan for beginners that I found online. I was fine going to the gym where I lived before because there was hardly ever anyone in there. Now I'm back home for college and I want to use their gym but I'm so afraid. I've already lost 3 days of the workout, I'm going to try to go in there today but is it normal to be afraid that people will think I'm weird and shouldn't be there

    • I am thin (within normal/healthy weight range) but also "out of shape"/lacking muscle tone so I look a bit pudgy in some places like lower belly

most secure people would just see you as someone with goals you want to reach, just like themselves, you will get some people with their head up their own ass but once you keep it up you'll be the happier person.

Very normal just take it slow ,you'll get used to it. Doesn't sound like some ghetto thug gym.

Totally normal to feel that way but completely irrational. Pretty much everyone in the fitness world is full of shit anyways, including instructors. And pretty much everyone at the gym is there either because they're insecure about how they look or they're simply trying to be active for a change. If you're seeing results from what you're doing and feeling physically better, go for it.

There's a channel on YouTube called Fitness Blender. Instead of going to the gym, all I did was get a set of Dumbbells and work out to their videos. I also did a ridiculous amount of research on which exercises work what parts of the body and created my own routine that I follow. I even went and bought my own cardio equipment off craigslist for cheap. I wound up losing a LOT of weight. Perhaps you can try doing that if you don't want to go the gym?
I probably have no right to say this part since I'm a social anxiety ridden weirdo that weaseled out of going to the gym, but there's going to be people there in even worse shape than you who are probably a lot more afraid than you. Everyone is going there with the same goal: to get in better shape/stay in shape. They won't be looking at you, they'll just be concentrating on their own shit.
        :)

        • I did manage to go to the gym yesterday awkward as it was... The thing I'm mainly afraid of is people seeing me and thinking "wtf are you doing?! That's not the right way to do that exercise!" Or something lol. I used to follow a home Pilates video, that claimed you would look different in 30 days, but I didn't look any different so I gave up.. I also found one called nerd fitness which seems pretty cool. Honestly though I like working out at the gym equipment, I'm just afraid of people/judgement.

Anyway thank you for the reply, I will definitely check out that channel ^^

            You're welcome. :)

Those home videos don't actually do what they say they'll do. I followed one called Be Fit In 90 and it didn't do shit for me. lol If the gym is what works for you, then don't worry about the judgement and do what helps you.
            :)
