I'm 25 and i still suck my thumb

Hello,
I'm 25, female and I still suck my thumb everyday for several hours. Also a lot at work. "Suck" means I put it in my mouth. I don't literally suck. I've stopped it only for a short time during childhood. Since I was 9 I've been constantly sucking my left thumb. It soothes me. Like a cigarette maybe. I don't smoke or use other drugs. ;) I don't do it right before sleeping. I couldn't sleep with my thumb in my mouth.

I could never imagine not doing it. If I don't do it for a couple of hours stress is building up.

Is it normal?

As long as you are able to control it in certain situations, I think that's ok.
Much better than smoking, drinking or overeating

I've never sucked my thumb, so I can't relate. Is it swollen or anything? That's hot.

    • No. It's not swollen. Just a bit stunted. ;)

Being that thumb sucking is free, legal, convenient, drug free, calorie free, effective at inducing calm instantly, nonintrusive (like smoking is), and nonalcholic I think it's a great habit to have and you should consider yourself lucky. Check out thumbsuckingadults.com and you'll find that it's, perhaps, one of the highest populated secrets...LOTS of adults indulge, if secretly.

Consider that your thumb comes into contact with virtually everything you handle in the course of a day, and you're needlessly exposing yourself to potentially deadly germs and viruses... even if you wash your hands fairly often. Take a course in Microbiology and see for yourself!

Besides this, the habits we form make us who we are so it's best to select them carefully. For every mindless habit we take up, there are countless other things we could be doing to better ourselves.

Mimibear... That's not a habit. It's a rare disease called trichotillomania. I'm not sure if you can do anything about it but my friend had it too.

Could end up having two habits, thumb sucking AND smoking.
