I count, everything. I love to count things, pencils in the cup, 23 of them. spoons in the drawer 14, coins in my pocket... 86 cents. cars going by, birds bugs, flowers... everything. and I remember them all, I dont mind, but others think I am crazy... is this normal? to count so much, 55 words...

I bet your favorite part on Sesame Street used to be when the weird vampire dude would press keys on the organ and the pipes would count up to a mystery number.

I don't think it's an OCD thing. i've always counted things in my head, as long as i can remember. letters, how many sides in a letter, clocks, numbers, everything. a few years ago i discovered my sister does the same thing, then after talking to my parents we realized our father counts too! i also recently found out my 4 year old also counts, holes in her crackers, letters in words. could it be some weird genetic thing??

    OCD probably
I have a case similar to yours, but in my case, i DON'T enjoy counting -.- It makes me tired and crud. I'll count how many letters there are in a phrase, do other crud too. It, though, enhances my math skills. :)

I've read about it, it's rare, but not harmful or bad.

I'm a bit like that, i also do it with reading, if there is something to read i'll make sure i read it. I don't think there is anything wrong with us, our brains are just wanting a workout, that HAS to be good... right?

I'm going to say its normal, but its not natural. I have a similar OCD... mine is number based like yours. I either count or make complex math equations to understand a code. for example... whats the difference between the house numbers going down the street... i find out the pattern... ehh hard to explain.

Sounds like you could have a future on Sesame Street.

It could be or develop into some sort of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive disorder). OCD is where people become obsessed with things and need control over things like turning a light switch on and off, compulsively washing ones hands, or in your case, counting objects.
