I don't care to or pet them, and not for any common reasons like allergies or not wanting to hurt it, or because i'm scared of them(although i really don't like dogs). I just don't enjoy petting them.
I love the smell of my Siamese house cat, and he gets up in my face to know. I'm currently staying with relatives, and they have a cute Border Collie who is always up in my face practically begging for attention and affection. This dog jumps up on me everyday, but she's gentle about it, and really very sweet.
I used to have rats too, and they were always crawling all over my head, shoulders and up in my hair. My favorite dog breed is the Shetland Sheepdog, I love how vocal and sassy they are!
I think it's normal. I don't like petting animals that much either, since they don't enjoy it most of the time.
I guess it's ok. There's nothing wrong with it at all! But I think that petting is a natural instinct as you want to show affection
