I like the sensation of very mild pain

For some reason it feels good when I inflict very mild pain on myself. No, this is not "self-harm". I don't go as far as to actually cause genuine injury to myself, just enough to trigger some pain receptors on my body. I enjoy lightly whipping myself or holding my hand on a surface just hot enough to cause pain, but I never go as far as to say scald myself or cut myself.

Is this normal?

The release of endorphins at the anticipation of something good, in your case, relief, is slightly addictive chemically. But also, some people like to scare themselves or make themselves cry, knowing they'll be in complete control of when the negative emotions stop. You just have to stop twanging the elastic, or turn off the horror flick, or stop thinking about something sad that "could" happen. That kind of control is something that people need now and then. Just don't overdo it. Remember, the worst thing about pain and misery is that usually, you're never sure when or even if they're going to end. The anxiety is worse than the actual experience of pain.
