I lie to my friends to make them happy?

Have these friends on this website that I go on about everyday ( I post art there and will chat with them often), and well,
I guess in a way I will change my personality to make them like me.

For example, they think that I dislike people who are interested in serial killers, I have even made short comics expressing that, but in reality, I am interested in serial killers myself, but I would never let them know that.

It's probably silly lying to them like that, and if they really are my friends then they wouldn't judge me, but still, I can't risk losing them.

However, on another website, I have a few people I talk to...I wouldn't really call them my friends because we don't talk that often, but these two people know about my interest in crime, and we happily discuss it amongest ourselves. I feel like I can be more open with these people rather than my other friends.

I'm not saying that I don't like all my friends, I do really! That's why I put so much effort in trying to make them happy,
if I didn't care, then I wouldn't be so careful around them.

Is this normal? Am I being selfish? Should I just be true to all my friends?

I think you should be more honest. 11

It's better to just be yourself.

It seems like a silly thing to lie about. Why hide your interests from your friends? I think it would be petty if they judged you for something like that. If your friends abandon you over something like that then just make friends with people who share your interests.

It depends on how close you want to be to those friends on the art website. People often lie to acquaintances/people they don't really care about, and are more open with their close friends.

It's actually quite sad that your fears of abandonment and rejection are severe enough that live like this.

Maybe you should get a golden retriever instead of wasting your life lying to strangers?

    • Not much of a dog fan, but I do have a cat and a kitten who I love. Even so, I want human friends too, not just animals.
