I idolize my friend

basically she's prettier than me, smarter than me, funnier than me, more normal than me, nicer than me, and has a boyfriend
everytime i'm around her, i hate myself, i compare myself to her and feel like i'll never be as good as he
i don't have a bf but i really want someone to talk to about this

  • Are you sure its just you? Is there something unhealthy about this relationship whereby you are put in the position of propping this girl's ego up at the expense of your own self esteem? Doesn't she ever compliment you, say something nice, be supportive & encouraging, introduce you to other boys - in short - be a FRIEND?

You know, I feel just the same except if this is a Female/Female I'm the opposite lol. I'm a Male/Female. I like this one girl, but I feel the same way, that she is better then me, nicer, funnier, smarter, has a bf, etc,.

I think that this is normal though.
We all look up to people don't we?

its good that you have someone to idolize, but don't put yourself down in the process.

Have you ever considered how the friend that's being "idolized" feels? Idolizers are invasive, superfocused, prone to talk, talk, talk about the object of their idolatry, leading to undesired spreading of the objects personal life and details that the idolizer wasn't privy to in the first place, at least not with the "idol's" consent. Idolizers are also possesive, jealous of any other friendships that the object of their idolatry may have. Putting yourself down?? I don't thinkso. Maybe, putting yourself on.
