I hear a voice say my name before i fall asleep.

Every night before I fall asleep completely, I hear a voice in my head say my name. Usually different people in my life I can recognize. Its been happening so long I kinda see as normal, does anyone else experience something similar?

if you recognize the voices maybe your just attached to those people, or there on your mind. everyone has there quirks. most people who hear voices are considered crazy but if you only hear them call your name(and not to like kill people or rob banks)then you seem normal enough
don't listen to these ghost stories. its nothing to stress out about.

    cheers!

    • no need, in my opinion at least, just be comfortable with yourself, relax, and be ok with the stuff u hear before bed. If you want to pay attention to it, its just metaphorical statements about your life and stuff not literal thank god

I hear that too. Again and again before I fall asleep. I know they are just my mind voice or conscience or whatever you call it but it's like every time I've ever heard someone say my name playing over and over. Its kind of relaxing actually.

  • me too, your not nuts. i get this a lot and i can honestly say i have come to enjoy it and find it comforting and enjoyable. i can genuinely say i like hearing things before i go to sleep. its normal, just a simple fluke of the brain. if you were going mad, you wouldn't be posting this on here or seeking any contact with other human beings

After a bout of alcoholism in my early 20's, I've heard my mom say my name right when I'm falling asleep. It's only been maybe a total of five times in the past 10 years. It's the same time that you get that falling feeling before you go to sleep, except you don't get the adrenaline that wakes you up, you are just awake, so it doesn't feel like a dream, it feels like you've hallucinated. I was worried about it, which is why I'm here, but I'm not that worried anymore. I thought I might've damaged my brain from drinking, which... I probably did, but, I guess I'm not alone...

    • you didn't damage your brain, theres no such thing. i hear voices before i go to sleep sometimes too and it is not because of drugs or drinking. also, it isn't a bad thing at all in my opinion at least. in fact, i kind of like it, they say things that are somehow loosely/metaphorically associated with issues in my life

Perhaps you have a gift. I know something about people communication with the outside world or other world's who do many extraordinary things with their mind when asleep. As long as nothing bad happens...you should be good.

Sometimes when I listen to music I hear people scream my name so I pause it n wait to see if someone calls my name again but no one does so I turn it back on n a few songs later I'll hear it again

Hypnagogia. It's normal. In fact, it's abnormal to NOT experience it to some degree at some point in your life.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

Hypnagogic imagery is often auditory or has an auditory component. Like the visuals, hypnagogic sounds vary in intensity from faint impressions to loud noises, such as crashes and bangs (exploding head syndrome). People may imagine their own name called or a doorbell ringing. Snatches of imagined speech are common. While typically nonsensical and fragmented, these speech events can occasionally strike the individual as apt comments on %%u2013 or summations of %%u2013 their thoughts at the time. They often contain word play, neologisms and made-up names. Hypnagogic speech may manifest as the subject%%u2019s own %%u2018inner voice%%u2019, or as the voices of others: familiar people or strangers. More rarely, poetry or music is heard.

my bed shakes at night when I'm trying to get to sleep, and i don't live above a train line or an earthquake zone or anything. i think i'm being haunted. and my mom swears on her life she saw ghosts as a child.

I've had this kind of thing all my life and it's only recently i realise how all this time i've been 'mad'. Frankly i wouldn't want not to have this mystery in my life. It's all too grey otherwise. Don't worry about it. Try responding to the voices and see where they take you..

    whoa thats borderline schizo.
as long as these voices aren't giving you advice or somehow influencing you then why not. but im pretty sure its not normal.
