@ todstellar: sleep deprivation can not kill you, it has been medically proven.

And dude who posted this: GO TO SLEEP!!!

Not too sure where you got your medical information, but scientific studies have shown that long-term total sleep deprivation can cause death. The reason why people say that you can not die from no sleep is because complete absence of sleep over long periods is impossible for humans to achieve (unless they suffer from fatal familial insomnia). It is impossible to go 120 hours without sleep...you just cant do it. I was diagnosed for insomnia six years ago, and since then, have read a lot into it...so, because it is physically impossible to stay awake for 120 hours, after 110 hours you are either going to pass right out, or you are going to...got a better answer?

Sorry for bumping old thread. Does any1 have proof staying awake this long is not possible? I've currently been awake for 100 hours. I've had a few micro naps in the last 24 hours none lasting longer than a minute or 2. I know this because I'm playing games on my phone and wake with it a foot from my face as if I'm still using it, so I can gage by game progress if I've been asleep longer. Obviously I'm having mild hallucinations and I'm not functioning very well in general. I can honestly say I do this reguarly and for times longer, up to 140+ hours. Increasingly getting worse symptoms until eventually I shut down, basicly pass out. I'm just curious where anyone got these theorys you die or something severe happens. In some cases I assume something may fail or cause complications. In my first hand experience I've stayed awake over 100 hours so many times I can't put a number on it. Secondly I'm obviously using something to do this which is causing as much or more issues than the lack of sleep. Not hydrating eating very little and nothing healthy by the end I'm fairly drained need lots of sleep and it takes between 1-3 weeks to recover to a normal kind of function. Basicly I'm saying you can stay awake these long periods regularly and apart from needing time to gather your thoughts eat good food hydrate and vitamins ect you can keep this up for years spending 240 hours, 10 days a month not sleeping at all, example twice a month every month for a year stay awake for 120 hours. I know for a fact this is possible, not reccomended but you would be surprised how easy it is. Do not do this it's stupid, but yes it's possible I'm not lying I challenge someone to prove me wrong.

I am attempting to stay awake for 5,000,077,990 hours. I am currently on hour 1,998,710,000.

I experimentally stayed awake for one hundred hours, which is slightly over four full days. This was a couple years ago. Your "experience" is clearly a lie. Around 95 hours awake I was in terrible pain, I felt sick, my blood pressure was all over the place, my vision was blurry, my hearing was distorted, and I was hallucinating.

  • He's an insomniac. His brain doesn't produce the correct hormone to make him feel tired. There may be stages of micro sleep where the brain automatically induces the REM stage where it works rejuvenate and replenish. OP Your probably not aware of these micro sleep naps as they can usually happen with your eyes open

If this is true it would be a case of severe insomnia. You need to go to sleep! It's already starting to effect your health, but if you keep it up you'll die. Try drinking warm milk with sugar and vanilla, or tea. Buy valerian root capsules, but if none of this works you should see a doctor as this could be due to something serious like a neurological condition.

You must have a very productive life to not have to sleep at night to rejuvenate.

I used to have massive problems sleeping for no apparent reason, and didnt really notice any change when I hadn't had any sleep. But after like 80ish hours I'd pretty much collapse from exhaustion, even though I didn't feel all that tired. I think you'd probably have reached that stage by 120 so I say you're lying

Hmm you might be right, but I do read a lot of med journals. It was as recent as a week ago, I read that you are more likely to go crazy then die. if I find the link I'll be sure to let you know.

Yes, you are 100% right. People will go crazy from no sleep before ever dying, as well as they will pass out before dying of no sleep, which is why they say that you can't die from sleep deprivation, but, if the case were to go against human possibilities where you really do not sleep for 120 hours, you would go crazy after about 95 hours, eventually your brain would have to shut down.
Your right in saying that sleep deprivation has not killed anyone in any accounts we have witnessed, but because of how the side effects come in, they only get worse by the hour after 92 hours, after 120 hours, there is verry little chance that someone would be able to survive the intense brain damage, which is why people, in all cases, have passed out before actually reaching the state where death can occure.

You must be dead, because on average people can only go about 5 days without sleep. You need sleep so your body and repair itself; without it, you will die or feel the effects of sleep deprivation.

      120 hours is 5 days , 24x 5 = 120

I'm not sure I believe you. I used to go for long periods without sleep, sometimes over ninety hours. I always fancied doing a hundred, just to say I'd done it. I can be obstinate about a challenge and the I don't give up easily. But the reason I can't tell you I got into three figures is because of just how badly it was affecting me. Hallucinations, paranoia, waking sleep where the brain just zones out for an hour, incredible nausea every time you lie down. If you'd really gone a whole 24 hours beyond even this, you'd be in abysmal state right now. I think you must have caught the odd hour here and there, and don't remember it.

After 72 hours of no sleep, it becomes very dangerous, at 96 hours, most people encounter mental psychosis and diminished organ function.
120 hours? You would be dead ten hours agao.
Everyone that says that they havent slept for a week, what they mean is they havn't slept well.
