I have to look at the sun to sneeze

Does anyone else do this? Whenever I feel a sneeze coming I have to look towards the sun or at a really bright light to get it out. I cant sneeze in the dark..not sure if it's normal

It's common to sneeze when being suddenly flooded by sunlight, especially for people with lighter pigmentation. You're normal.

It's a genetic trait called Photic sneeze reflex, affecting only 18-35%% of the human population. Mainly caucasians.

I have it too but I love it.

I don't have to see into a bright light to sneeze, but I'll sneeze if I see into a bright light...

actually what you(and I) have is a genetic trait, much like how a person can either roll their tongue into a circle, or they cant.

what happens used to fascinate me, so I asked my biology professor in college. apparently the electric signal from your eyes to your brain becomes overloaded with the bright light and jumps from the optical pathway to the nasal pathway, making you sneeze. sometimes when I walk outside and dont have to sneeze it will just happen because of the light. interesting, eh?
