I have to do everything symmetrically

I have to do everything symmetrically! For instance, if I'm lying in bed at night and I have to scratch an itch on my big toe, then I'll have to scratch that same spot on my other big toe or it won't feel 'right' and I'll go crazy with anxiety. Same thing with my ears: if I have to take out an earplug during the night and scratch inside my ear, then I'll have to take out the other earplug and scratch inside my other ear, or else it will immediately start itching anyway...what the hell is this? I've been doing it all my life and it doesn't make any sense at all.

Death the Kid, is that you?

I think you have OCD or it could be something else. I used to have very obsessive routines and was diagnosed with having OCD. Yet, I got cured. I got out of the cycles and I haven't had any in a long time.

Yes. It really bugs me, but I do it too! I have no idea why I'm like this.

Ummm.....Yes, you are normal. What is NOT NORMAL are people who "love" their dog. These are the societal rejects who could not form adequate bonds with other humans and therefore are relegated to the canine social circle. It is almost as pathetic as dogs are in general. And by pathetic I mean: You think your dog is "special" or somehow superior to humans? Ok smartypants. Leave your house for a couple of weeks, shut the door, don't even lock it. Leave a bag of dog food in the cupboard and see if your dog is happy to see you when you get back from your trip.

I am the same way, like if I go to the bathroom and I have to piss, i wont leave until i take a shit too. It really sucks cause some times I dont have to take a shit but I still just sit there and wait tell it comes.
For instance; one friday night, I was at a concert, and I was drinking alot of beer, and loan behold i had to piss half way through the show. I sat there trying to shit through the rest of the show. Then security had to through me out cause I refused to leave at closing cause I still was not able to shit. :/
I feel better knowing that you share the same problem.

I mark it up to mild OCD, I am the same way and it used to be worse. I have never been treated for it though.

Do you have to pick each nostril too? What about things you've only got one of? What happens then? Do you go insane?

    • I've only got one person annoying the f**k out of me right now, so if I kicked the s**t out of you, I'd have to do it symmetrically; i.e., pound both of your eyes, smash both sides of your skull, etc. Then I'd feel 'normal' again...so the answer is no, I wouldn't go insane...

ROFL!!! ;-) I think it's cool that things need to go symmetrically for you. I was just piss taking, haha. Don't take it personally it wasn't meant like that. It's really fine to be symmetrical like you are, it's probably not common though, and if it doesn't affect your life in a major way then who cares?

Sounds like a reasonably mild case of Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder. You should see a psychiatrist who can prescribe a low-dose of medication that should take care of it. Counseling techniques such as cognitive therapy can help also, but OCD is one of the list of disorders that has it's origin more in neurochemistry than psychology, so medication tends to be much more effective.
