I have friends like that and I have to tell you, dropping out to "find themselves" for many (not all!) of them was a terrible mistake. They had a hard time readjusting to work/school schedules, they had to re-discipline themselves and many of them just lost track of things and still aren't doing anything.

I recommend that you go back to school or get a job, ANY job, until you figure things out. Leaving the game is the worst thing one can do to remedy their confusion as to how they want to play. It's easier to find answers when you're taking an active role in life than sitting around and worrying. See a guidance counselor, go to a job fair and stay active in life.

Im was just like that. All of high school I never tried at all. I'm 18 and don't have my license, I've never had a job and even though I knew I NEEDED one I had no motivation to get one. However recently I started therapy at my parents request and found out I have sever depression and social anxiety. So it may feel normal to me, its not actually normal. I've been going to church and school and making a few friends and practicing driving for the past month and it actually feels good to try for something. You're in a rut and you deserve a better life, don't wait until its half over to realize that :) Just start by doing ONE thing, whether its a job or school or a hobby or a therapist. Its easier said than done but once you make those first few steps you'll feel more and more confident and you'll wonder why you never tried before! good luck :)

It's normal to feel that way, but you have to get a job. Otherwise your only choice is leeching off the people you love.

At some stage you will have to buy food or drugs. This will require money.

Oh wow, I was going to try to give you some productive advice, but you obviously have much growing up to do. Come back and see us in 10 years with an update and tell us what you have (or haven't) learned.

Like it or not you are going to have to do something. Unless you plan on being a lazy loser mooching off someone else for the rest of your life. So get off your ass and find and job and stop expecting everyone else to take care of you. You are a burden to society. GROW THE FUCK UP YOU LAZY CUNT!

Dropping out aside, I think its very normal for a young person not to know what to do with his life at age 18-20 in our current society.

‘Nothing’ on your resume for a long period of time suggests to future employers that you are not employable - they WILL assume that you HAVE been trying to get work and no one will hire you for a reason. The absence of school on your resume, especially high school will just exacerbate your non-existent desirability as an employee. I don’t need a crystal ball to see that you will not be happy with whatever you are planning to do once you ‘figure it out’; because you will not be qualified or hired for it – it will most likely be an occupation reserved for ex-cons and/or recovering street junkies that still have that urge to relapse. BTW there aren’t a lot of people who know what their ideal occupation is, they just try something that interests them and go from there; It takes time and trial and error to truly figure it out. My suggestion: stop wasting time.

Life would be so easy without school and a job. It's most certainly normal to want this. Heck, with all the work I'n getting I wish I could drop out and stay home all day! But that's not the way to make it through life. If you want this in the future, you have to make a hell of a lot of money beforehand, and in most cases, that means getting a good education and a good career.

Did you drop out of high school or college? Either way, it's not a smart thing to do. You need to look at your life in the long term. You need to take your education seriously and support yourself. If you're still doing this by the time you are in your 30's or your 40's that would really be pathetic. Also, not many women are attracted to a man who has no ambitions or means to support himself.
