I have a strange philosophy about life.

The way I see it, we are all selfish. We all do things to better ourselves, whether it is donating to the homeless or volunteering at a hospital. You do it to better your self image, make you feel better about yourself, or make others think better of you. It is all selfish at the core, but no one wants to admit it. Is it normal to think that?

So I'm selfish if I donate to charity and I'm selfish if I don't donate to charity? Sweet! Fuck it then I'm going to go play PS3

I also agree. Many people who say they want to make a change in the world, deep down it's for themselves. Selfishness is in our blood.

Selfishness is something people are supposed to grow out of as adults, but not all do. Because western culture places an emphasis on the individual and not the good of all, people tend to be quite self-absorbed, but it's normal because almost everyone participates in it.

It's normal to see it that way, but I think you're projecting.

I'm going to go set fire to a disabled childrens hospital then. If i gave them money for treatments it would just be to make myself look better.

Yep, we are all selfish, always have been. But it seems you are using the word selfish to describe a range of action from being self centered to selfless. It is all about the self but the self can be many things.

I apologize. The article I meant to link you to was the one on psychological egoism. But you get the idea.

It is, in fact, SO normal that they even write entire books and Wikipedia articles about it. I think this is what you were looking for:

It seems to me like you have never felt live before... If you love someoune for example a child just to feel good with yourself, well thats not love, but if you love if regarding everything else... Thats love and that is not selfosh

I could agree, being in this modern materialistic type of lifestyle that our society has become. But there are exceptions, and people should become more aware of this

I salute for realizing this fact, so act otherwise which means to this for others not for yourself.

  • It's normal.I agree with you partly. All the people are selfish. But I believe that there are exceptions. For example Jesus(though he was semi God)...

those saints are still selfish because they only do "good" to make themselves feel better about making other people feel better
