I hate wearing closed shoes, my feet feel like they are in jail.

I have always been very uncomfortable wearing most shoes, As long as the sides and toe area is open I can deal but I hate any kind of shoe flops/sandals are OK but you cant wear them in winter. If I wear any real shoes like sneakers, boots, dress shoes loafers etc, I feel like my feet are suffocating or in jail! I need my feet to breathe and not be confined. My feet don't sweat a lot or anything but I dislike any kind of tight or binding clothing in general especially on my feet
I don't even like socks.

I hate wearing old shows too. I've had the Ed Sullivan Show and the Merv Griffin Show on my feet for years and I think it's time I got new ones.

Could be the cut and style of the shoe, as well as the materials used. Try skate shoes. They tend to be very spacious.

I hate it too! I did my 10k steps yesterday in flip flops. I do wear flip flops around the house in winter with socks. I live in the Northeast so I cannot wear them outside in the ice and snow. It's nice to hear other people have the same feeling about shoes. I'm trying to find something that I can tolerate for my 10k steps? Anyone? I wear sneakers at the track but I hate them. It's not the type of shoes I'm wearing...it's just that I hate having my feet confined

It maybe that you are wearing the wrong kind of shoes. Try to get comfortable shoes from better brands like Nike, Adidas etc. You can check hype at http://www.hypedc.com/nike/ for they have a good collection of all kinds of footwear. Also wear shoes 1/2 a size bigger so that your feet can breathe.
