I hate putting my mouth on things like cutlery

I just hate the thought that I have to put my mouth on cutlery and glasses and things that sometimes on occasion still have bits of dried food left from the dishwasher or something and has been used for years by various members of the family.

I don't know why but it disgusts me. Is it normal?

Okay, your utensils must not be cleaned, take care of that first. secondly, besides plastic utensils i cant imagine you eating anything but a whole pizza, un-sliced... I would be sad too... However seriously, if you dont think its clean, it probably isn't, i always inspect my utensils before using them (roommates in cooking school teach you that)

I'm a bit of a clean freak inside but I stop myself from thinking that way because I won't enjoy myself and would want to carry sanitizer with me everywhere.

If you think about most things that people share it's pretty unhygienic but it's best not to care. It's not a big deal really.

Yup. My grandmother's cutlery and dishes are like that. No one else seemed to care but I'd rrwash things before I'd use them, or before I'd put them away, which she takes as a personal insult. Having had 4 days with her over xmas I can't WAIT to get home to my clean stuff.

    • Yes, same. I had to spend a week at my grandparents once in between moving houses and the cutlery there was ancient and covered in old bits of food. It was almost torture for me and all my family laughed when I tried rewashing it. I don't understand how they could eat off cutlery that has old food on it that has been in some old persons mouth (no offense to old people).

Mine also uses hers for dog food (spoons) and gardening (knives and forks). I like dishes washing in burning hot water and detergent...she uses luke warm, and uses the sponges on just about everything.

I'm so, so, so glad I don't live there anymore. It's kinda a toss up between wondering how I survived the germs, or did it give me a REALLY good immune system?

I can't eat with cutlery that I know has JUST been used by someone (even though washed), I'll get a new one out of the drawer (and was it if needs be :P) but I don't mind if it's been sitting in the drawer a while (illogical really, I've seen cockroaches in my grandmothers cutlery drawer...oh god, now I'm gonna be disinfecting everything today :P)

You need to start scrubbing the flatware BEFORE you put it in the dishwasher.

Yes it's extra work but... since your flatware is coming out with food on it still, obviously it needs to start happening.
