I hate living in the uk

I'm 18 and suffer with major depression and i'm on a waiting list to see a counsellor but i just hate living in the UK. I hate everything about it and i can't think of anything positive about it. Just the other day i almost took my life because i can't stand being here any longer. Is it normal to hate your own country?

well UK is becoming more and more like 1984 england, with those harsh laws regarding encrypted data and so on it is so hard. And muslim immigrants, I hate them because they believe that women and non-believers are inferior(I am a guy btw). I am always glad when some country passes a law that bans those muslim towers or those ridiculous covers for muslim women, they should be treated equally and not forced to wear clothing that states that they are inferior. I hate muslims, I may be prejudiced, but at least my prejudice fits almost all of them.

I completely understand you. Im not suffering from major depression, but coming here has surely put me in a depressive mood. It may well have been the country that triggered your depression, but remember, you are only 18 and have your whole life ahead of you. Who's to say that you have to stay here for the rest of your life? At least that's my consolidation.

Sorry to hear that. But ya know, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I LOVE Canada, but I still get depressed. Would probably happen no matter where I lived.

Hey,Laminator I am the so called muslim immigrants you speak off. I was born and bred in the uk and am proud to call myself British, which I hope makes your blood boil. Do not fool yourself into believing that you speak for the decent, hard working people of this country. It may come as a shock to your ignorant believes but muslim women dress in the matter that they do because they choose to. we live in a country where we can express ourselves in any manner we may choose to. So if these women are so against this way of dressing then why do they continue dressing like this?.

we british muslims are decent,hard-working and law abiding citizens. We are YOUR doctors, pharmacists, lawyers ect. so why dont you do something productive with your life instead of trying to second guess a group people you know nothing of.

To conclude, this post was regarding a person with a difficult problem (depression) what in the name of god has this got anything to do with MUSLIMS. You are me son me old mukka me old mate a walking, talking JOKE!!!!!!!!

I hated my own country too, until I went to an even worse country. Than I started to appreciate my own country. You should do the same. By the way, I was also depressed, that makes everything look horrible. You should try to change some aspects of your life. UK doesn't have the fault.

Hmmm yes there are some aspects of it that is very disliking. So it’s fairly normal. Sometimes I even find myself being trapped by the country and its people when I just want to pop on a plane back home for good. I’d say social aspects of it all such as educational levels is what affects their arrogance the most. Everyone is purely relying on social category of it being a first world country where potable water can be drank from taps. Other than that to be honest, I find myself getting anxious about speaking my opinion, going to the shops, finding shelters where domestic violence doesn’t occur. The theft and sabotage within schools and small neighbourhoods is also something that happens quite often. Lying on social media about career and education, poor food quality in some households, lack of something to wear in some aspects. Sloth to job opportunities, avarice levels here is just ridiculous. There’s also the religious issue, where anywhere where a poor Britain can find food, the church automatically becomes Anglican rather than what it should be.

This is the best advice your gonna get hun!~If you really hate living in the Uk that much so then you should move ASAP, alot of people are gonna tell u otherwise "it's not that bad etc" but you gotta be somewhere you are happy. Take it from me i was in the exact same position as u (depressed about UK) and have moved recently to Usa ~ i am so much happier and can't even explain why! So if u are 18 then u could move anywhere else to study or something Australia, France etc... It's best to tell someone close to u though and have support from family whilst doing this.

The UK is a shit place to live. It is overcrowded, full of cars, full of people who are rude, cynical and unfriendly. It's run by the rich elites. It's got a Conservative government that is destroying the last vestiges of a caring society, a process that was begun by Thatcher in the 1980s. The government punishes anyone who is poor or disadvantaged and deprives everyone it possibly can of any benefits. English men hate women, they're rude and uncaring and obsessed with porn. It rains all the time. I do all I can to encourage my kids to go elsewhere. Original poster, get out while you can, you're young, go to New Zealand or Australia, maybe Canada or Sourh America. The UK is finished.
And yep, Laminator, these days I agree with you. Won't be long before we find sharia law imposed, women having to cover up like there was something wrong with them, animals slaughtered without stunning to fulfil the wishes of some 7th century weirdo, that goes for the mutilation of young girls by chopping off their genitals too. It's the last straw in a shit country.

Try japan its super expensive but they seem like the most economically sound right now. Canada and US are both having issues economically as well as legislation wise.

I agree with anonymouss. I grew up HATING (absolutely loathing) my hometown in Missouri. And I hated the people who told me what I'm about to tell you even MORE.

I moved to my dream place (literally...there was no where else I would rather be in the entire world) and I had almost an instant case of homesickness. I had never in my life thought I would be a person who got homesick. I also ended up hating where I moved (due mostly to the people and distance from my family, but also just missed the simple comforts of home) and so I moved back home. And guess what? I was happy and content for the first time in my life.

Life is funny. The hardest lesson I ever had to learn was a location will never make you happy. In some ways, it can make you even more depressed if you end up realizing the people there aren't as amazing as the ones you left behind. Then you feel like there's no reason to live even more, since you're supposedly living your dream :-(

That being said...you should absolutely go where you want, if only to realize it was never the right place to begin with.

I hated living in the city I live in for a while. It's very boring and there's nothing to do. I guess you could try to improve your diet and exercise if you can while you're waiting to be treated. good luck.

Back to the actual post after dealing with attention seeking time wasters. There's plenty to do in the uk. Have you considered trying to mabey go to other towns or cities. Mabey, your just bored with the area you live in. Also like the other helpful posters commented on your depression is making you believe the problem is your location when in fact it is the depression. From personal experience depression is a dark pit. You try your hardest to dig your way out but you find yourself falling futher in. Perservere with the counselling you feel like you want to run away at the start but keep going you owe it to yourself. peace out.

I think it's intriguing that you live in the UK. I have always wanted to visit because it seems like such a fun, laid-back, historic country. I sometimes get down that I don't have enough finances to travel. Like Flowers was explaining, maybe you should try and find some good points about your country. Mine and yours do have pretty good rights and citizens do have more freedom than so many others.

I am sorry you are so depressed. I am glad to here you are seeking help. Is there anyway to talk to someone besides just the counselor you%%u2019re waiting for on the waitlist? Can you tell them or another professional therapist that your case seems very severe to you? Being suicidal is not to be taken lightly, no matter what it pertains to. If your country is upsetting you so, do you have the means to travel? Road trip for a little while? Can you talk to a loved one or online support group? I was wondering if it might help to find out more about the issues that bother you and see if you can make a difference. Sorry for running on with this statement but I really hope you can find some help here.

Whereabouts in the uk do you live and what exactly is it that you hate so much?

I don't think it's all that bad. At least we've got rights, which is more than can be said of other parts of the world. At least we don't have a Great Firewall censoring our internet. Like everywhere else, the uk's got its flaws, but it's not the worst place to be. In my opinion, anyway.

Yes, it's normal to hate your country. However, with major depression, everywhere else would probably seem just as bad, unless there are people around you giving you a hard time.

misskrueger how has she got her whole life ahead of her? She's already had 18 years. And by the way, the OP is the one with the problem: we have a wonderful country and how dare misskruger critisize it. It's got more going for it than Sweden. We lead the world in popular music and gave you The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. You gave us ABBA! LOL
