Aw, I didn't think it was so bad. Maybe I'm just not snobby enough about it, but I'm *thrilled* to be watching another sci-fi film on the big screen. It is my absolute most favourite genre of film and I'll watch any and all of it, if I am able to.
The past ten years have been increasingly wonderful for me because sci-fi movies in general were not as popular in the past as they are today, not at all. Since I'm all for some sci-fi futuristic action and have been watching Star Trek since the early eighties, I honestly don't care if the new Star Trek films are true to the past or produced/directed in a certain way; I'm just chuffed to bits that I get to see it.
People like me probably annoy people like you, eh. Oh well, I'm off to see the new Star Trek film in an hour and I'm sure I will enjoy it just like I do all the other sci-fi films.
Live long and prosper. ;P
I am a little annoyed, but at the same time I guess the lesson as a fan is, as long as you know Paramount is going to fuck you , you might as well relax and enjoy it.
Wait until disney rapes Star Wars more than it's ever been raped before.
Maybe that's it then. I do have really low expectations going into most sci-fi shows but, as a result, I'm very rarely disappointed for having watched it.
I did see the new one last night. It was entertaining, for me. :)
yes it is normal to think the new Star Trek with new actors sucks. I am used to the Captain James T. Kirk style and I just can't get into this reboot era. I just might be showing my age. If I had grown up with reboot Star Trek I might feel different.
Check out Star Trek New Voyages also known as Star Trek Phase 2, by Jamed Cawley.
I didn't like his movie super 8. I thought it was pretty over rated. It tried to be so many things at once I was left scratching my head
Super-8's story of the kids wanting to make a movie was good. They should have just stuck to that and left out the stupid alien part of it.
The part with the kids making a movie was absolute crap. They should have stuck with the part about only the aliens. When I saw the trailer, I thought it would be a cool movie involving aliens and the military, and instead, I saw a sub-par movie with children as main characters.

Dude, I watched Star Trek for the first time last night. Never seen any Star Trek shit before the movie. It was pretty fucking awesome to be honest. The only thing I didn't like was the constant fucking lens flare effects in the Bridge. It's like there was someone in the corner with a torch, just shining it into the camera every 5 seconds.
I'm not a big fan of much of J.J. Abrams output. Have you seen any of Revolution? Rubbish (although he's a producer and not a writer of it).
I feel like this new Star Trek is purely cashing in on the success of the past, following this Hollywood trend of creating gritty versions of old characters and series (Nolan's shitty Batman for example). Relying on the cult following to hand over cash for anything within these franchises.
Why don't they put all that effort in to creating brilliant, original NEW science fiction? New stories, new characters, new franchises, instead of endlessly regurgitating 'classics'. Sci-fi needs better than low budget dumbed down crap or high-budget equally dumbed-down crap.
I can't stand the "new" star trek. I guess they just ran out of ideas. Couldn't be bothered to continue with Enterprise or some other spinoff, so they hired a couple of dicks to play around on a 60's set. Fucking ridiculous. And the plot sucks.
Topical.
Anyway, just wait to see what he does with Star Wars Episode 7.
Has anyone seen Fringe? I think J.J. Abrams created it, and it's an amazing series. So he must be good for something...
I saw an episode of Conan with Zachary Quinto as a guest star and my first thought was, "I wonder how poorly-received Into Darkness will be amongst fans of the original series?"
Besides Super 8 (which was decent), has he ever actually made anything worthwhile? Don't think so.
