I hate easter

Easter is nothing to be excited about, it's the same old thing all it is it's basically just about people getting overexcited about a stupid egg hunt especially little children I freaking hate it. I hate it with all my might and very core. One other reason that I hate it is that Easter is overrated.

As an atheist it’s an excuse to have chocolate and one I’ll gladly accept.

It's because you don't know the true meaning of Easter.

Easter means a lot to people who celebrate it in remembrance of the final days of Jesus of Nazareth on earth.

It may also mean quite a lot to people who consider solstices as having a quasi-spiritual importance and like to venerate or worship them in some way. I'm thinking of Paganists, Wiccans and spiritualists.

Then there are 'Nu Atheists' who like to point out the ancient Pagan roots of 'Eostre' in order to sound 'enlightened'. The scathing tone about this is very real: that sort of self-aggrandising is always unwelcome with me, no matter where it comes from, but I have had a few particularly bad brushes with this brand of atheist, and they are just as bad as some evangelicals. They tend to sound like wannabe copycats of Stephen Fry, David Attenborough and Brian Fox all lumped together into one supercilious, condescending composite. Yuck.

There are also some lapsed Catholics who prefer to speak of 'Eostre' and solstices, it seems, because they want to use this as a distancing buffer between themselves and the worldview and cultural accoutrements that had formerly been an organising force in their lives. Sometimes they coincide with the previous group. They mostly don't seem to 'celebrate' Eostre with any genuine enthusiasm though - they seem to just be glad that it exists as a concept.

But if it's just about bunnies and eggs? Yeah, past a certain age I don't see the appeal.

Why not compartmentalize these haters? Christmas has the Grinch. You could write a children's book about an anti-hero that might inspire a full length animated story for television. The Easter haters including the OP would feel happy that their story had air time, and mindlessly happy minions would say, yay, the bad guys failed again.

Well yes, although wiccans may have existed long before... 😉

People have definietely practiced wicca for far longer than when it was "discovered" and eventually turned into a religion of its own.

I said, "Excuse me, motherfucker, do you like jelly beans?"
He was like, "Yeah, but not the black and the green ones."
    ...
MOTHERFUCKER, WHO SAID I HAD EASTER JELLY BEANS?
    .....
To make a long fucking story short, I put a whole bag of jelly beans up my ass. And it's 24 hours later and I ain't found none yet

At my household every year we let the kids shoot a rabbit in a cage with a shotgun

I don't know a huge amount about guns, but I should imagine there wouldn't be much edible left after shooting a rabbit with buckshot at close range.

A lot of stuff is overrated and commercialized and that's how it will be. Maybe you've never had a nice Easter. I'm an atheist so the religious meaning of it doesn't matter to me much, but I like the whole climate and also it's an excuse to eat sweets lol. You don't have to like it tho.

An egg hunt?! It's about Jesus!

Personally I'm not religious at all but Easter is a Christian festival which celebrates when Jesus apparently rose again. I am amazed that someone old enough to be on this website would not know this.

I'm an atheist, so Easter has no religious significance to me. All the commercial crap is nothing more than that.

The only thing that matters to me is that Easter comes at a nice time of year here at a latitude that's well north of the Canadian border of the continental USA. The days are noticeably longer, things are blooming and coming into leaf and what passes for summer in Wales is clearly on its way.

It's alright. It's not really a big holiday for me, but I don't dislike it.

I agree take all the commercialism out of the Christian special celebrations. Let all the anti, fake, BS people cry all the way to the bank to see their lack of profits. Take away all the BS of; Christmas, fat Tuesday, ash Wednesday, Marti gras, Passover, Easter. Take away all the holidays and time off from working given to celebrate these events and just let the true Christian have them back. You have a choice don't take part in it, tell your employer you don't want the time off. You get rid of all the fake celebrators a lot of the hipe would die down, of course so would your profits, fun and jobs.

I think a lot of things including holidays can get over=hyped and then feel like a let down. I'd say normal
