I hate being an american

I hate the Bible belt. I hate the Pro-life assholes who are willing to berate an innocent woman for her own life decisions. I hate the overly conservative Christians. I hate that most people here don't believe that healthcare is a basic human right. Or education, for that matter. I hate that racism, sexism, and general bigotry are so prevalent. I hate that we only have two serious political parties from which we can choose, and I hate how both of these parties use simple social issues (gay marriage and abortion) to try to distract us from the real problems that face us all. I hate that this manipulative strategy actually works. I hate that our congress wouldn't be able to agree on if the sky is blue or not, much less fix our economic issues. I hate how Socialism is a dirty word in the USA, even though the failure of pure Capitalism is so incredibly obvious. I hate the blind paranoia. I hate how no one is willing to trust the government (We the People), but everyone is totally fine with big businesses being considered people (not exactly known for their great ethics). I hate the rape culture here, and the fact that if a woman wears a low-cut dress people will actually think it's her fault for being raped (and yet they have something against Burkas because...freedom?) I hate the greedy, manipulative, money-grubbing twats on Wall Street.
But most of all, I hate that I am associated with this war-mongering, ignorant, and greedy country. If you're a 1st world country, shouldn't you be trying to do more good in the world? Not more evil? Am I just being unreasonable?

I'm not an American but I think America and american people are mostly ok. The world is a very complex and dangerous place and it's too simplistic and somewhat lazy to view America as just a greedy war mongering nation.

Racism, sexism, and bigotry affect all of us regardless of where we live. If you want things to change for the better, voting for the right party isn't going to be enough. You'll have to get off your butt and do something to make it better.

They don't need to leave, they can sit right on their ass and self-loathe. I hate that people are confused about what they should be hating, but I'm so happy to see they have the right to express their confusions. This is exactly the sort of ignorance I'm talking about... I believe I do understand what you are referencing, but correct me if I'm wrong. You are speaking about the Arab Spring, aren't you? The revolutions taking place in the Middle East, and the consistently confusing subject matter of who are the citizens and who are the terrorists. You are speaking of the fundamentalists who wish to debase all that is Capitalist and American, and replace such institutions with Sharia Law. I am not, of course, advocating those fundamentalists. In truth, I believe the foundations of the USA (even if they were not intended to become how they did) are noble and important.
However, there are many ideas present in modern USA that have clashed with the elusive dream of a free and equal country. For instance, how on Earth are American citizens supposed to have equal opportunities to pursue happiness if some receive higher quality (and less expensive) healthcare than other Americans? How is that the USA is supposed to be the land of equal opportunities when the gap between the rich and the poor is widening at such an alarming rate? When, in fact, the equity of your home and those around yours greatly impact the quality of education your child receives?

The fact some Americans can acknowledge these things make me think you lot aren't as bad as people make you out to be.

I used to be quite racist in a way. I used to call your country "the united mistakes of America." But it was important for me to seperate the policies of your government from the average American person. Generally, you guys are super friendly people. A tad neurotic, but that's understandable when I look at your environment and your media and the religious nuts.

I agree with what you said on capitalism. I think in recent times it has really been apparent that it has failed due to greed. It's caused a global financial crisis.
"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the wickedest of men will do the wickedest of things for the greater good of everyone."

But you also have a lot to be proud of. I'm thinking film history and culture here, but there's plenty more. You just have to recognise them.

I hate that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are being dismantled in the name of "security".
I hate that the biggest criminals in the US sit in congress, or support those that do.
I hate that Bush hasn't been charged with "crimes against humanity" for lying us into a needless war that has killed so many young Americans and countless others.
I hate that we Americans are despised world wide for things people I didn't elect have done and are still doing.
I hate that we run around the world being the world's police man, when our shit stinks worse than most we think need interference.

It's not being an American that's the problem so much as being a human. Humans are not color coded so we can tell who is normal and who is evil (although racist people seem to think we are). I just watched The Green Mile movie again, and it was so cool how the Joe Coffey character could see into people's hearts and even punish those who were evil. There are good and evil people everywhere, and there is disease and poverty and greed, and the rich are selfish and won't help out the less fortunate. That's evil. Our government shouldn't have to try to help the less fortunate - the wealthy should give a shit, but they think they are superior just because they are good at making money or got lucky. My solution is to not have kids because I don't trust this evil world with them. What else can you do?

It was the American people who reelected GW Bush, a mass murderer, to the presidency. It was the American people who reelected the man who got his advice "from a higher power" (an exact quote, when asked if he asked his father for advice) to dismantle the Constitution and Bill of Rights, in the name of security.
Most Americans are not evil humans, they are stupid, uneducated sheep, who would rather take as gospel the rantings of the tea party idiots, than take a few minutes to go online and check for themselves whether these rantings are true. I still get the odd email or forwarded email about Obama not being a US born citizen!
The latest tea party propaganda is something about the Washington military base shootings had something to do with Obama's intention to set off a nuclear device on American soil. Not too clear yet, but that's the gist of it.

I did not vote for Bush. I never would have. When he was first elected president I was only 6 years old, and I was only 10 years old when he was reelected. I had nothing to do with him or his decisions, so do not place the blame on me. I am not republican, and I am not a Christian. I am an Atheist, and I'm not exactly a Democrat, either. I can't stand the donkey v. elephant fight here, I believe it only creates blind patriotism and so nothing can get done because the two parties won't agree with each other on anything!

Our democratic system is badly broken; capitalism has failed, except for the rich and we imprison more of our population than the even the most corrupt fascist countries that we look down on.

I have a question first off. What do you mean bible belt? Though I believe in logic and reality not fantasies. Last time I checked didn't the US have free schooling? Probably why everyone in the US comes out fucking twits. Since free tends to fuck shit up.

You have to realize you get what you pay for and nothing is free. You eat a plant well for you to survive it cost that plant its life. It also cost money to make that plant. If you eat a cow someone paid to care for that cow in your stomach. People pay taxes and those taxes go to what? Oh that's right schooling, and healthcare and you know why? Its a business!

For the overly Christians people that think god will fix everything I think should not depend on him for everything. "God helps those who help themselves" I think is a very good lesson. You cant just expect shit to fall into your lap. Shit aint free it never be. As well as that people should have a freedom to believe what they wish long as its not hurting anyone.

If they pray to god before they eat well let them. Why the fuck does that bother you? Also you know what the government does when they have full power? They are open to abuse the power. DUH DUH DUHN HITLER!

I don't think we want another fucking dictating racist in this world like that. Yet that is clearly what you are against. Which really makes no sense with everything else you are saying.

Another thing is Not that I am saying its good but sometimes war happens. Sometimes we have no choice. This is the reason why. People are not always going to get along. When we don't we fight and if the fight gets bad enough we have war.

You also don't trust the people around so what makes you think the fuckers in office are any different? They are the same as anyone else they just have loads more cash. Which for being against people with money you sure would fall under ones foot really quick wouldn't you? So there is a lot of holes in your logic.

Things like sexism and racism exist in all parts of the world. Its also very noticeable in places like India, and japan. So you really cant say its just ONE part of the world. I mean even England and Germany have had those issues.

Oh and you know who I think the laziest people in wall-street are? It has to be those protesters DEMANDING free television sets and a higher pay check. Yeah I am so sure every fucking American is entitled to free tv. That is complete bull shit. So if you really want to see the greedy one is you should look in a mirror.

As for the rape. I don't think they are blaming those girls for rape. A criminal caught in the act will blame everyone else and try to justify their actions. If not they go to prison. That is kind of how hearings go. Criminals know they did bad they just don't want to get their sorry behinds tosses in jail.

    • I disagree with many, many of the things in your reply.
      1. Universal healthcare/education are not "free" per say. People pay taxes, including the people receiving the direct benefits, in order to help everyone. The people who don't receive the direct benefits receive indirect benefits. Indirect benefits meaning that the overall community becomes healthier and more educated, so the future generations will have a better chance of surviving and finding happiness. That's what it means to pay taxes: community. Now, of course that's not how it is now. The tax code has been manipulated to the extent where none of it goes to the people, and it mostly goes towards big businesses. Take, for example, the healthcare system. The USA pays extremely high healthcare taxes, far more than many of the countries in Europe, but we don't receive the amount of benefits we should. Why? Well, a lot of reasons. Many of them having to do with greed. A lot of people seem to have this idea that healthcare and education are not basic human rights, and so they try to thrust these two institutions into the free market. The free market is useful for many things, and in fact for elastic goods (things that you don't necessarily need, but you want) it is extremely useful for driving down costs for the consumers. This doesn't work the same for healthcare or education, because those two things are inelastic goods. For instance, if someone offers you a pill to get rid of your cancer once and for all for $15, you're going to take it. If that same someone offers you the same pill for $150,000 (with interest), you're still going to take it, even though it will land you in eternal debt, because it will save your life. The same is true for education, though it's not because it will save your life, but it will give you a better life than a waitress at Denny's. Therefore, we must trust the government to take care of our healthcare and education.
      2. I don't know where you got the idea that having a large government means having Hitler in office, but that is entirely untrue. Hitler came into office during an extremely bad time in Germany's history, and because of some very specific reasons. Germany had just been landed with all of the blame (and debt) for WWI, and so the people were starving, suffering, and desperate for anyone to be their leader. Hitler was very charismatic, and told the people that he would help, but he did not mention that his way of helping meant storming into other countries, murdering all the people, and stealing all of the food and land left behind. It wasn't because of big government, but it was because the people had let their fear and desperation override their logic.
      3. People don't want free TVs (elastic good), they want healthcare and education (inelastic goods).
      4. I'm talking about how everyone blames the victims in rape cases. Remember Steubenville? Remember how newscasters were defending those poor, juvenile rapists on national TV because they would never be able to play football again? Remember how the hacker who made these vile monsters and their horrid acts public was sentenced to more time in prison than the rapists themselves?
      5. The USA only has "free" schooling up until high school has finished. Which is great! ...If you want to work as a waitress at Denny's your entire life. A BA or BS from college has become the new high school diploma, and fewer and fewer people can afford it than ever before.

Yes the US must be really educated. WHY SO MANY CHILDREN CANT READ AT 18. Clearly if there is children that old not able to read there is a big fucking problem. Also for the Hitler you said "why don't we just trust the government more and why we question them". HITLER IS FUCKING WHY! IF everyone had that attitude we would be under Hitler.

Since everyone like you would say "Well they know what they are doing. We should not question it. EVER!" So clearly you agree with it.

Its sad you really did not get that reference.
Please do your research before you write back. The protest on wall-street was demanding free tv among other frivolous things(I DID LOOK THIS SHIT UP). You are very poorly informed on these topics. Please fucking learn them.

Also buying college is expensive as hell but considering there is 18 year olds who cant read at the HS level maybe they should work on reforming those first.

I hate ignorance. Most of which this original post was sprinkled with. Differences of opinion are fine...but it sounds like you hate anyone with a difference of opinion. Grow up.

I'm from the Bible Belt. I'm pro choice. I believe in love. I believe socialism is crappy as capitalism. I believe that public healthcare is a great idea but the tackling it fully is very VERY difficult. I'm not even going to touch your R-Culture comments because I believe they are outdated. I don't believe that the majority of any group of people blames a female who is attacked. There are always going to be one or two assholes who do the blaming. That's not a group or a proper sized chunk of our society.

I can't stand when Americans bash America. There is a reason we are the MOST diverse country in the world with citizens from EVERY country in the world. Because as much as you'd don't want to believe it...but overall we are a very accepting country to immigrants...because we are all immigrants ourselves or children of immigrants or grand-children of immigrants.

If you do not like it here...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! This way you can figure out that it doesn't matter where you live YOU WILL NEVER BE HAPPY. Yes there are things that we would all love to change about where we live...and some of us pursue the proper avenues to make those changes. Complaining about them on a message board isn't one of those avenues. What are you doing to change the things you dislike? Pursue a path in politics...You can do that here in the US. Petition. You can do that here. Start an organization to help those in need of healthcare...YOU CAN DO THAT HERE in the US. Be the difference you wish to see in the world. Don't complain about the differences you want to see in the world.

There is only one problem responsible of all the others and the answer is the human being. Wars, racism, rape, bigotry greediness etc. It has all been magnified by the economic crisis the world knows today and still does.

France does not run around the world demanding other countries live by it's standards. France did produce a world wide recession and reward the architects of that collapse with huge bonuses.
France is not hated world wide because of the actions and words of their president (Bush, not Obama, though disappointment with Obama is definitely present).
Your problems are national, for the most part, and can be repaired or improved in time.
As the system stands, there is no way that America has anywhere to go but further down. With the loss of our Constitution and Bill of Rights, the "American Way" is dying and the intentional dismantling of the American middle class will certainly end the dream our founding fathers had for a country with "justice and freedom for all".
