I hate bad trendy baby names

I cant stand maudlin, trendy baby names with no real history or reason behind them. Naming ypur kid should be important and mesningful, at least put some thought into it.
Examples are
Jayden/ Kaden/ Brayden made up names
Neveah
Kennedy esp off spellings Kynnadie
McKenzie McKenna Mc Anything!
Tanner( tanner than what?)
Gunner/ Hunter, why not Shooter?
Blaze
Birdie/ Wren esp for a boy!
Kaighlee and other stupid spellings.
Sullivan( for a girl, ugh)
Trently, Brinley/ Tinslee cutesy crap that sounds like a stripper.
Kraven(means coward)
Having a different name us ok but at some point it just gets stupid.

  • I prefer the name Adolf. We don’t see many Adolfs around.

I'm still waiting to meet someone named Robitussin. Or some midwest white kid with a Khoisan name.

It depends on the degree of "uniqueness" for me.

I don't mind some of these in the post (although some are stupid, Blaze and Gunner stand out as cringeworthy).

    You cross a line for me when;

    - You spell the name stupidly (Blaze instead of "Blaise")
    - Put any punctuation in the name (unless combining two real names with a hyphen)
    - Have a name that's unnecessarily long
    - Just call them something you know is stupid (like Gunner).

Just think when naming your kid... "is my child going to get made fun of if I name them this?". If you think they will, don't do it.

    • Gunner is actually an old German or Nordic name. It has nothing to do with guns and was probably around before guns were invented.
It’s also pretty common for some Europeans to use surnames like Duffy or Kennedy as a first name if that name is dying off in the family as an honorarium to that branch of the family tree.

I'm referring to people who like it because it has the word " gun". Gunnar is the right spelling, yeah?

"is my child going to get made fun of if I name them this?". If you think they will, don't do it. "

Fuck that. Don't pass up names you like for that bullshit. It's better to think of it like this...you're not just naming your child, you're naming a future adult.

Yes it is. I'm actually agreeing with you in part because trendy does not always age well.

And any name can get made fun of but kids grow up so it makes little sense to put too much focus on what 'might' happen for a few years as a child vs the entire rest of their life as an adult. If you like a name that's nerdy or not popular or whatever, don't not use it because some shithead in 5th grade might call your kid a name.

There's a woman in England named Diet Coke (It's spelled differently). There's a boy in Texas named Football. Oh yea, There's a guy in California named Hugh Mungus. I have personally known a guy from the Philippines named Hung Dong. It's on his drivers license and everything.

I'd be less worried about him being teased and more concerned that people would just call him Gus. Gus is such shit compared to Angus. Like Jimmy or Jimbo are to James. I love the name James but good luck getting people to use the proper form, I'd never use it for a first name for this reason alone.

I love that name! I also live Reese!

If I had been a boy my name would have been Reese Francis. I kinda like it, but it sounds like a Welsh alter boy who plays rugby, sings like an angel and gets into fights.

Reese and Francis are the names of 2 brothers on Malcolm in the Middle.

If I had another boy, I was going to name him Kyle Reese...which is the name of John Connor's dad in the Terminator (I just really like the names, nothing to do with the movie but it is an excellent film!)...funnily enough, I had a friend named Kyle Reese who was named after the movie guy, he was born (or perhaps conceived?) right around when it came out.

Yes, I know! I used to love that show. It freaked me out that basically the first names of the two worst kids would have been my first and middle name had I been a boy. It was a really funny show though.
