I had a different interest as a child

Adult: what do you want to be when you grow up?

Me: I want to be a psychologist

Yeah...... When I was 6 I was interested in psychology, preferably hypnosis. As I grew older, I kept watching videos of people getting hypnotized and knowing all about different hypnotic states. I even tried hypnotizing my friends. When I was 13, I got interested in psychology as a whole. I even did a psychology project for the science fair that year. Obviously, my interest faded away. However, now even my mom thinks I would be a good psychologist. She says it has to do with the way I listen to people's problems, and sometimes how I suggest some solutions.

Just curious, am I the only one here who had that interest as a child?

When I was a little kid I wanted to be a paleontologist, a ballet dancer and an archaeologist.

As an adult I worked in radio broadcasting, and later in customer service. I want to go back to school again, and study psychology as well as humanities. I'm pretty much a straight up liberal arts kinda person.

My only technical expertise is in setting up an entertainment system and a stereo system.

I would like to start a blog, and a YouTube channel, but I excel at laziness, and procrastination.

I'm 49, it's not wonderful, but it's not that bad.

I reckon 49 is not old enough to be old.

Thanks, I guess it's really just a matter of perspective.

Totally normal. I wanted some adventurous jobs like as the taxonomists that explores jungles and stuffs. Instead I ended up doing a desk job as an accounts officer....

    Yep, it's totally normal.

The hypnosis aspect is kinda weird, though. Like as a young kid, maybe you would want to be a psychologist because you could "make people happy" or "help people" or "make them smile" but no... you wanted to swing a pendulum back and forth and hypnotize people.

Well, I suppose that everyone is unique and we all have our own interests and personality quirks. You do you.

    • He read the book but he doesn't live the life.

  • I feel like I'm living now as I wanted when I was six or so, having a little adventure.

Eventually I'd like to study and work in psychology.
