I grew up in front of a tv in darkness, is it normal for americans

Most of my childhood was spent in a room with boarded up broken windows watching TV and playing games. I dont remember eating anything but mac and cheese. My mom was always smoking cigarettes or pot and our place was extremely grimy and nasty. My dad left us a long time ago.
