I gravitate toward male friends with hairy chests

I appreciate unique and unshallow people. The whole manscaping craze I just find really vain and superficial. I'm constantly hearing about men who want both, unrealistically, to appear masculine but also wish they'd turned out hairless as a seal and looked like giant new-borns when they're naked! So I feel a lot more comfortable around men who own their natural body hair, especially those who don't try to hide it. I just respect what I assume is their down-to-earth, non-sheeplike nature. I even respect women who respect men with body hair more!

This is just one example of people who aren't obsessed with grooming and appearances who I respect more because of it. I don't have ANYTHING against naturally hairless people, but the guys who shave and wax everything off, it puts ME right off. I'm not a macho guy in the least, and maybe having the body hair I do have is an odd contrast with my youthful face, but I don't care. I'd rather just be me the way I was meant to look than try to become closer to what I think society wants me to be.

So, you men who work out shirtless with a hairy chest, or don't care if the top button comes undone and someone notices you haven't manscaped, know that at least one person respects the hell out of you. You look like real, classy, Connery-esque men.

I really don't see any reason for someone to get rid of their body hair. Most of the dudes I see are hairless. It's their choice to do so if they enjoy how it looks, but it just looks weird to me.

Not the point, but newborns often have a surprising amount of hair.

I think more people don't shave their chest that do, so the shavers might be the more unique ones. But grooming is grooming. I don't think it is any more vain or shallow to shave your chest than it is to shave your face, or any more vain or shallow than it is for a woman to shave her legs.

It's just personal preference. If it makes you fell better about yourself I really don't see the harm.

    • Guys in my area around my age all shave, especially the ones at the gym. I know it's probably a fad, but still.. That's why I get along better with men in older generations. They're less 'me' focussed. Pretty much the only guys who don't shave around my age are insufferable hipsters xD And they're only consciously not doing it to be 'different', not to be themselves.

It sounds like they can't win with you. The ones who are doing it are just vain and shallow and/or just following the trend. The ones who aren't doing it are just consciously trying to not follow the trend, rather than be themself. It sounds like the only person around your age where you live that has made a decision about it based on who they are as an individual is you. That just seems a bit unlikely to me. I am not trying to be rude, but I think you are just really over thinking this. It's just really not that serious.

        • No, that's fair. I am overthinking it. I'm panicked about the state of society, and the manscaping thing is just a tiny symptom of it. I take on a lot of worry about the world. I guess this is the wrong place to get into it.

I was trying to show my respect for people who aren't shallow, but instead I came off to you like I'm being unfair to all men, whether they shave or not. You had the right to point this out to me, and I'm glad you did.
