I get upset when a stuffed animal or toy is "mistreated."

Whenever I see someone on TV either ripping up, throwing away or damaging a stuffed animal, I get really emotional for some reason. I am not sure why exactly, but it could be because they must've required such hard work to make them in the first place. Is this normal?

I think it has something to do with the fact that they're somewhat anthropomorphized and we we know that people typically have emotional attachment to them.

I feel the same way. I think it's because they resemble beings. They have faces. So do cars and many houses and buildings in a way, cars with their headlights and structures with their windows.

I also feel kind of sad when something is destroyed for no reason. It just seems like such a waste to me. I have difficulty throwing out anything that is still any good at all.

I just don't like seeing things destroyed. It's never been thrilling or cool to me like some people, but just seems a little sad and unnecessary. I even hate watching structures be demolished, there's just something about it that I don't like. I know sometimes it's necessary, but I don't like watching the process. I especially hate seeing perfectly nice houses with nothing wrong with them being demolished for the hideous, cheaply built modern monstrosities with no charm and no class that seem to be popping up everywhere.

I can relate. Probably because my father tore up my favorite stuffy when I was 10 or 11 or so, one that I’d had since birth, while in a fit of alcoholic rage, and then made me collect the bits and throw him in the trash. I was (still am really :( ) a lonely kid, and my stuffies were my friends (like, not imaginary friends or anything, but ya know).

    • I can't believe someone would be so heartless. He better have apologized.

It didn't require hard work to make them. They are massed produced in a factory.

    • Not everything. Some are hand-made.

I want to say I agree and that it’s a good way to think because I believe even objects should be treated respectfully, but also it’s pretty silly if it upsets you enough to mess with your mood.

I never liked when people messed with plants. My brother used to walk around with a hatchet and take a chunk out of every tree he passed and it always pissed me off because I thought it was rude lmao (not to mention weakens the tree to disease)

    • That's horrible. It is even worse to be done to a tree because they are alive.

An adult being upset over a stuffed toy or any inanimate object is pathetic and verging on repulsive.

    • I feel that way for a few seconds and then get over it. I only feel that way with stuffed animals, because of how cute they look. You don't seem to relate, do you?

Nope, barely even feel anything when I see a real animal abused or killed. But lots of people seem to relate to you.

Not pathetic, it's just having feelings. Several people have attachments to inanimate objects that are sentimental for any reason, such as being linked in a way to someone they care about. Also, stuffed animals are very anthropomorphized and resemble animals.

The OP isn’t talking about something that is their personal property or which has sentimental value to them, they are talking about stuffed toys being damaged on TV shows. It’s like people who cry when a dog dies in a movie but a whole lot worse.

Hey, I've cried when an animal dies in a movie, lol. Some people are just more emotional than others, nothing wrong with that.

I think it's the fact that stuffed animals are not only specifically made to resemble real animals, but also that so many people have ones they grew up with and have a sentimental attachment to.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
        • Can't argue with that. Though I feel that way also because I had lots of stuffies as a kid.
