I get enraged when people do this...

Ok, there is a lot of rude behavior out there but I see this happen all the time: a person throws down money for a cashier instead of handing it to them. This is SO rude its like " your'e so lowly Im refuse to directly touch you".
Seriously hand them the money! If someone did that to me I would throw the change back at them just to make a point.
Do you find this really rude or is it just me overreacting?

What about the ones that get mad at the cashier because the price of something has changed? It's not their fault prices change. They're just cashiers they don't control that. But some customers don't understand that... /:

  • I was a cashier for a while and it only bothered me when people threw their money on the register in a big clump

Its something that can go both ways. A ton of cashiers have done this to my moms.

  • That's quite an over reaction. I do this all the time and it has never once crossed my mind that it might be rude.

do you place the money down, or actually throw it down? I can deal with people placing in on the counter but literally dropping it or throwing it is definitely rude.

      • I wouldn't say I throw it, but I often put the money on the counter. I never really thought much into it.

i hardly ever cashier, but the last time i did, some teenager just tossed the money at me and smirked and told me i just have to deal with it :/ i shrugged it off and continued. fortunately my position usually doesn't require me to do the register much.

Yesterday a woman handed me money and she said "oh my god, your hands are so cold" lol, maybe I do feel like a dead fish. Its cold in my shop.

The 'rudeness' of it depends on where you come from.

Throwing is rude, but placing the money on the counter.. I think that's normal. I came from another country (not the USA) and I've heard that it's a cultural thing in America to hand the money directly to the cashier.
I always put the money on the counter before, unless we were on familiar terms with the cashier.
I think it's kind of scary to hand it directly to strangers. I feel a little embarrassed too, like what if they touch my hand/fingers and think it feels weird..
I never thought of them as lowly.

Thank you, that puts things into perspective a little.
I always assumed it was done on purpose but maybe a lot of people don't think about it one way or another.

Sounds like you're taking it a bit too personally.
In my case, the reason I don't want to touch people is not because I think they're lowly, but because it's a very unpleasant tactile experience for me. It's hard to describe, but it's almost like touching a dead fish.
I don't do handshakes, hugs, etc.

I understand that. But you don't actually touch the person you just hand them the money. Though I guess some incidental touching is always a risk.

I hope someone throws a quarter at you! And then you use it to call someone! And get a clue from the person whom you called!

What kind of an asshole calls people collect anyway? A RAT, I'll bet.

I usually hand it to them. I don't think I've ever placed it on the counter. Actually, I think I used to get reprimanded about that.

I wouldn't throw it at them, be the better person and keep it to yourself. I do find it rude though.
