I fucking hate shop assistants asking if i am alright

I say...yess I'm fine what do you want? ( ok not the last bit) Or I'm fine, are YOU ok?

The way they ask is annoying..are you ok there, are you alright? In that dumb bimbo voice.

    • Lol true. And I don't like having to talk when I've got food in my mouth either.

Or when someone asks me to pass something to them. It's way ruder to interrupt someone eating than it is to reach 3 feet to grab the salt shaker. Maybe I'm just an angry eater lol.

Then don't say it! It's a phrase which attempts to pretend the interactions are social, theyre not, it's about giving service so get over it. Ask something like'Can I help you?'.

They are supposed to ask you.
to make sure you have been helped

      • Dearest reminiscent...and then when you ask for something they look puzzled, don't want to help, and disappear. Or start chatting to the other cashier or assistants while your queuing and find yourself waiting for their thrilling conversation about real los angeles housewives' pets' knitwear or some crap, to end. Then you don't get your money out fast enough for their liking and they start tapping their fingers on the counter...But don't believe me, it must be nice in your world, with sugar and spice and all things nice : )

I would rather they said - "is there anything I can help you with/ let me know if I can help you find anything/ are you after anything specific?" Rather than "are you alright?" The higher quality shop, the less you hear this dumb phrase.

I like that im dearest ;)

People must be quite rude where you are to be so impatient. Such poor quality service should be reported.
I am alright with such things being asked..." are you alight?" "Is everything alright?"
I even worked in a store and asked such questions ...if nothing was needed of me I would go stand back by the cash register...I would never make a customer wait or act impatiant. I would like them to come back and ask for me the next time they are in the store.

Im not in some sugary world were there is never poor service. ..but I would tell a manager
You also didnt provide as much detail in your original post just that you thought being asked the question was irritating .... so my post was goign off of that and that alone

          • I meant you probably see things in a positive way, whereas other people, like me, might see it negatively. Not that you're naive about the world, and think its sugary. I sound passive aggressive like your bf's mum... But sugar and spice and all things nice makes me think of the gilmore girls...it's a good thing. And I'm saying don't believe me coz...its not good to be negative like me. And I get riled easily, hence the post with expletives which didn't explain much. Just unleashing furore...over something unimportant.

Shop assistants should ask 'Can I help you' or something similar. If you don't like serving others then don't do the job. 'Are you alright?' is a vain attempt to pretend the relationship is social in nature and equal. It's not, customers pay, assistants serve. Get over it.

I don't like it when they do it too. I get super easily surprised. I think when I'm older I'm going to die of being scared to death. When I went to school, people would purposely scare me just to see my reaction.

i let the customers ask me for help i don't even acknowledge them unless they ask me a question. the only time i ask if people need help is if there trying to steal that aggressive hospitality. but technically we are supposed to smile and ask every single customer if they need anything.
