I find it hard to separate an artist from their art.

I can't seem to separate products from the person who created them, whenever a celebrity or a moderately popular person with merch or music or makeup etc... does something problematic, i tend to completely cut any sort of ties with them. If i regularly follow them, i'd stop once and for all. I hold that on them for years to come.

But the thing is my friends find that wrong, they think i have a problem in that aspect. I find people who say racist things or get caught in some scandal that puts them in a bad light rightfully so, disgusting, and i am repulsed by the thought that i could ever be associated with them in any way. I'm gonna use examples of youtubers since i'm mostly involved with that sphere of content.

For example, Jeffree Star, James Charles, Trisha Paytas, Jaclyn Hill, Melanie Martinez, Laura Lee and Keem star. All of these people have done terrible things yet they still have fans and people who stan them somehow, which maddens me. People like to complain about cancel culture although it just elevates them and brings them right back up after the drama simmers down.

What is your stance on this?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

"Jeffree Star, James Charles, Trisha Paytas, Jaclyn Hill, Melanie Martinez, Laura Lee and Keem star"

Who the fuck are these people and why the fuck should I - or you, or anyone - give a shit about them?

One of the dumbest, most pathetic things about the world today is celebrity culture and how so many people are famous for being famous. I just looked up the first three names on that list. From the Wikipedia summary on Google's first page, they all appear to be self-promoting internet twats who've figured out how to market themselves on YouTube or social media sites and sell a glamorous image to gullible people who have an attention span of ten seconds and are constantly looking for something novel to fill their empty lives.

Of course they're dicks and they do dickish stuff. That's part of the personality package that comes along with the insecurity of knowing deep-down that you have no real talent and the deluded belief that the admiration of others will make you feel better about yourself.

It sounds to me like you're way too invested in this shallow, insignificant shit, and it would be good for you if you found other, more positive ways to use your time.

I think its normal. I can seperate them, but if you don't than I totally understand. To me I don't think you endorse everything someone did or said just by liking their product.

I only know about keem star. And to me he’s a shit person and not entertaining at all. But for me some people can be talented and shit people. Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, Louis c.k for example. All of them were really talented but shit people. For me if you make good music or good jokes or whatever. I really only care how it makes me relate to it.

i don't listen to Michael Jackson or watch anything Bill Cosby related anyways. But i'd say if i used to be a fan and discovered the things they had done, i would've cut ties with them immediately.

I don't care at all about the artist. I don't know the names of the artists behind most of the songs I listen to, etc. I don't usually give any shits if the artist in question is a terrible person - at most, I'd consider pirating the content instead of giving them money if applicable, but I'm certainly not going to stop enjoying their work. That would be ridiculous.
