I find it extremely hard to keep studying, i need help.

After hours upon hours of trying, I find that I cannot study at home or at school. I cannot study on my own or with others. I find that I am always distracted by whatever is more interesting than tax law (Which happens to be EVERYTHING. Read a Pub 17 for proof.)

So, to cure this as I want a better life, I FORCE MYSELF, I don't choose, I actually plan and force myself to...

Sit in my fiances car while she is at work for eight hours and spend the whole day studying IN HER CAR. I have tried to do this at home but the computer or this site is too interesting and I failed to study yet again. So, tomorrow I am getting up around noon to sit in her car until 10pm with nothing but my homework and all these stupid tax law books to read.

I usually bring a laptop but with only two hours of battery it tends to drain rather quickly. I sit when I absolutely need a break to watch an episode of something that I have downloaded to watch.

But, is it normal to study this way. I am sure it isn't but it is the only way I can study. If you have a better way, please write it down so I can try it as sitting in her car for eight hours tends to suck major ass and often hurts my butt. Stupid japanise cars, great for the machinery but usually extremely unconforable.

    • It turns out that I do suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder as well. I found out about this in my late twenties and far too late for it to mean anything in school. However, I naturally found ways to overcome it and so far I have been successful in college and at the tax job.

Loverofbunnies and I talked and she now is more okay with me writing here. It doesn't change the fact that I am okay with this or that and so on. But, it changes how I will act here and that mean that I am no longer going to fight with those three or four fuckheads who absolutely love to vomit out of their asses for "friends" they will never meet.

  • School can be tough and grueling - you got to do whatever works to get through the slogging. Lots of structure with breaks works for some. You sound like more of the Evil Knievel type though - you know - outrageous leaps over huge amounts of material, burn, crash, broken limbs, gasps, drama etc. ... and in the end ... he makes it!!!

    Worked for you this far.

Welcome to uni. That is what it is. Forcing yourself to study crap you don't like. I hate writing essays I have to force myself to sit down and hit my word target each day.

Yikes...tax law doesn't sound extremely engrossing to be honest.

I'm not in uni yet, but I know what you mean about forcing yourself to study. In fact, I should be studying now.

What you have to do is make yourself realise how important it is. Sit down and take a look at your deadlines and how much you need to do. You have to get yourself a little bit anxious about it. Some stress is good at kickstarting studying sometimes.

Every time a thought of procrastination enters your head, you've got to RESIST and just make yourself carry on with your work. You have to do this whilst at home or at school, because you need to retrain your brain. At the moment, you associate those places and your computer with surfing the internet/generally not working.

It's the same kind of principle that applies to people who find it hard to sleep in their own bed - they are so used to watching tv/surfing the net/reading/whatever when they're in their room that when it's time to sleep, they find that they can't do it.

Also, make sure you're studying is structured. So, instead of 8 hours here and there, you make a plan to study at specified times and for specified amounts of time. Breaking it up is not only good for your concentration, but also for information retention.

Trust me, its not. Out of the test we just took that I was pissed about all week long, I found that I pulled a 53%% as a grade while almost everyone else...except one asshole with a 83%%, pulled mid 40%%s

ps. this is coming from a self confessed procrastinator and person who finds it otherwise very hard to sit down and work, that is why my advice is a pile of crap, sorry :(

Get a cushion for the car to make it more comfy in there.

      • Also about studying right now...

Same here. It is 2pm and I should be studying for my class today at 6pm, yet I am responding back to you.

      • Thank you.

You advice was extremely useful on both ends, I am also a person with everything in my room and sleep is rthat hard for me to "try." I think I figured out what to do though, I am moving in with my fiance (about time.) and I made her promise to make me study.

As far as study time goes, I studied my ass off for three hours yesterday, I wanted to do more but that is all I could have done. I am getting this and hope I can pass the State Tax Preparers Board exam on the 12th of December.
