I feel like punching someone when they say they have ocd when..

I feel like punching someone when they say they have OCD when I know they dont?

I have OCD - real OCD and it's pretty bad and I get so annoyed with people who say they have OCD even when it's a joke. For me, OCD is hard to live with sometimes and it really can get to me, so hearing people say they have it when they don't even when they're joking seriously upsets me to the extreme and I feel like punching them in the face? Is it normal to feel this about them?

I totally get what you're saying. I dont like when people who are just "neat freaks" go around saying they have OCD.

No, I think it's normal. But be mindful of situations where people DO have OCD and you're just assuming they don't. That's really judgmental. OCD is actually quite common. I have it myself but most people wouldn't think I do because it manifests itself in different ways, because there are different types of OCD. If someone like me told you they had OCD, it would be wrong for you to get angry with them because it would just show your ignorance about the condition.

  • I've noticed that too.
I don't have OCD, but I still think it sounds strange when people say that when they don't truly have it.

I suppose that in the past, people would just refer to themselves as going "crazy" if they did something silly. That was before specific psychiatric terms were more commonly used by the general public. Now people are being glib when referring to things like: OCD, ADD, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, etc. People will never change. *sigh*

Having some sort of mental problem is popular nowadays. I think it's because people want pity, so they say, " I have this, feel bad for me..." Honestly, it's pathetic and a cry for attention.

People just like to say they have psychological disorders for attention. For some reason, they think that makes them interesting and different. Ignore their stupidity and I hope you find a treatment that works for you.

For some reason, I have OCD (even though I'm still asking to be absolutely sure) but when I'm in public or with my friends or family, I suppress it or try to make it as casual as possible. It hasn't gotten to the point where it takes over my life. In fact, not a lot of people know I have it (even though I am still unsure... how many tests have I taken, a couple dozen, even last night?)

I HATE when people say, CDO- compulsive disorder obsessive?! I get the alphabetical order, but it hurts my mind!

I know exactly what you mean.

I think people just don't understand what real OCD is.

You know what's worse? When you do have it and people expect you to be a neat freak..

my OCD doesn't effect me i know its pathetic and i could get over it if i want but i cant be arsed, what really annoys me is when people think they've got something like ocd permanently. If you put your mind to it its easy to overcome

Me too. I used to have strong urges as a kid, but now, i barely do anything compulsive. I'm still a control freak, though, but i think that's a personality trait.

Wow its a joke, lighten up dude. I'm adopted and when people joke that they must be adopted because their parents are really abnormal I don't feel upset.

Sounds like you have some issues about your OCD that you need to talk over with a psychologist.

I have OCD (however, my OCD is making unsure- I am still taking online tests (literally right now) and asking people even though it all came out positive) and I agree- I can take a joke if someone says, "Don't touch me, you're upsetting my OCD!"

I totally understand. People like to pretend they have it when the definition of OCD is commonly misunderstood. It makes me very furious when someone says they have severe OCD because they have to have perfect grammar.

yes its very normal. As a matter of fact i can see how annoying that would be. Considering the fact that i get extremely pissed when so called people claim to be Christian yet abide to almost nothing in the bible or choose what to abide to that fits them. sorry for trolling towards the end :p

  • I have OCD and I like to cope with it by joking about it with other people. Like people sometimes don't believe I really have it because I do joke about it. So if somebody really does have it don't be surprised when you find out they really do when you thought they didn't.

Psh, people wanting to punch people?! Who does that?? Haha it's completely normal, though maybe some do? I have it, but not nearly as much as some people. And so many people are stupid and don't realize there's someone that has it worse.
