I feel bad but it's probably true

A relative of mine said, in conversation with me and another relative, that my mother should have aborted me.
Am I wrong in thinking it's a bit of a truth, since I came nowhere in life to this day?

N.B. I suffer from depression.

  • People talk shit, they shouldn’t but they do. However, ALWAYS remember Madea’s wise words...

“It aint what they call you, it’s what you answer to.”

Every life has meaning, purpose and looks incredibly different.

Who the fuck is this person to say that you should have been aborted? Maybe they should have been aborted if they're going to be such a dicksplash.

Don't let them project their own fucked up issues onto you OP. You just keep working your way through your depression and then give this relative the finger when you come out the other side. You'll be a better person for it.

That was a really shitty thing to say to you. If I were you I would cut that relative out of my life as that is a completely inappropriate thing to say. Also I'm curious as to whether, or not your parents were abusive, or neglectful toward you. I tend to think they probably were.

Just because you're related by blood to people doesn't mean that you need to be friendly with them. You can, and probably should be civil, but sometimes it's okay to tell someone to fuck right off, or kiss your ass.

That relative of yours is a dickhead, don't pay any attention to him. It ain't what you give to society, it's who you are as a person that counts.

Maybe you would stop being depressed if you got off your ass and got a fucking job.

Yeah right, a job always cures depression, right? Really? And how do you know OP doesn't have a job already?

  • You should be thankful when people say things like this. It tells you what the world really thinks of you. A reality check so to speak. Lots of people are fake and they'll be nice to you meanwhile talking or thinking shit behind your back. This person is at least honest and confirms your life situation.

Take the pain and use it to find your feet. I think it was the movie Ben-Hur where there was a quote: "Hate drives a man to live." And it's true. There are few things more motivating than possibility of shame, punishment, or desire to prove someone wrong. Notice how quickly a work deadline forces otherwise lazy people to get shit done. Or the idea of public speaking raises your heartbeat and makes you sweat. You need that kind of motivator.

I'll bet you this person is the kind you can talk to openly about your problems and they'll give you honest advice. They'll tell it like it is. I speak from experience, because some time ago I was going nowhere fast and nobody pulled my ass into shape. Everyone was "nice" but didn't shame me into getting out of my quagmire. It's actually the "rude" people that helped me the most. That shame I felt made me angry enough to act. And I'm thankful to them to this day. Where are all the nice words of the "nice" people? Forgotten.
