I dont understand people who have a lot of kids

I mean...the "go forth and populate" part of Genesis is over. The earth is plenty (over)populated these days. Its not like there is a high infant mortality rate or you need kids to work the farm (unless youre Amish).

I don't understand why anybody wants more than 2 kids, three at most. It seems literally crazy to me. Do some people just enjoy being pregnant or having babies? Do they think their genes are so superior that they MUST be passed on? How anybody can afford more than a few kids is a mystery too. I think some people have a bunch of kids just because they can or because they came from a big family.

I have one child and that is more than enough for me.

    Although i do not agree with people who believe that we should stop procreating all together , i do agree with the fact that 2 children are more than enough.

  • I like you, wistfulmaiden. You're always nice to me unlike other people on here who seem to think I'm the antichrist for having very specific opinions on stuff.

      thanks. you seem pretty sensible to me, its supposed to be an site ON opinions. I think a lot of people lie on here, even though the whole point is to give your opinion even if its not pc or popular. They are too trained to say what is expected not what they really think.

  • I saw an episode of The Doctors on tv about a woman who has 17 children. The oldest is 25 and the youngest is an infant. She said since she had started having kids, the longest she had gone without being pregnant is 14 months and even then it startled her into receiving fertility treatments to have her now youngest, the infant. What the actual fuck? I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I'm not sure if anyone else realises this, but pregnancy isn't exactly healthy for the mother. Its quite a risky ordeal and I'm not even sure how bad it is first hand because I've never been pregnant, I just know the factual stuff. How can anyone want to actually give birth to and raise more than like 3 kids at the most? I think its women who have a gap in life they're trying to fill with babies.

    Study human geography to understand how people make this decision. Couples have less children when there is a lower mortality rate. In Mexico they have 6x the number of children as in the northeast of the U.S.

  • Awkward moment when I seen a Facebook link to an article about a single mother having about nine children and wanting more so she can gain more money from child support...>_>

    The collective intelligence of humanity is in decline because dumb people are out populating smart people.

    Some university did a study that stated having one kid raises your carbon footprint by 20x if I remember right

      There was a great scene in the British TV show Utopia, which is about a shady organisation seeking to depopulate the world before 'it's too late'.

      This lady is sat waiting for her bus, and starts speaking to another guy also waiting. He points out the carbon footprint of having a child... In the most disturbing way...

    With the Duggars, they are in the Quiverful Movement. They believe that God wants them to keep having to populate the earth. I don't agree with them because: 1. They have no regard for overpopulation of Earth, 2. The children are being born with health issues and dying. Her doctor has cautioned them to stop, but they won't, 3. The older children seem to become parents for the younger children.

    Some people have many children due to Culture. Some to keep the population up. (Some places have low birthrate). Some religion. Societal/family pressures. Nowadays, being a whore seems to be a very common practice. Young mothers keep having kids they can't afford. Young men will father many children, but the majority of them don't seem to stay by the mother's side and take responsibility.

    Well my cousin had 4 kids because they had three girls and wanted to give it one more try because it was a 75% chance that It'd be a boy. They had the boy and now they're happy because they have a son.

    I would want 3 because I have 2 sisters and I'm used to it and would like it, it just feels right to me and it's what I'd need/want, so what? Deal with it.

      3 isn't a lot I think more than 5 is a LOT. But if you haven't had your first one yet just wait and see how many diapers a person can deal with in a 24 hour period and stay sane. *evil laugh...*

    Why people have more kids than the Replacement Rate (2 Kids):
    * Selfishness. They want TONS of Mini-Mes.
    * Lack of Common Sense/Breeder-Brains.
    * Lack of sufficient birth control and or abortion.
    * No regulation on multiple births (let's face it, people are having Multiples left and right).
    * Religion (As you said, "Go Forth and Multiply").
    * Peer Preasure.
    * They never want to experience a "Empty Nest".
    * Possible addiction to pregnancy and or childbirth.
    * Sex can be quite delicious and fun for some people.
    * The possible fact that they grew up in families of 3 children or more (IOW, large families).
    * Failed contraception before, during, and after sexual intercourse.
    and
    * To ensure they get grandbabies (After all, only having 1 kid or 2 doesn't gaurantee grandkids).

  • Its like you saw into my mind and wrote exactly what I was thinking! Except for the genesis part, I'm an atheist. But seriously! What is up with everyone having a ridiculous amount of children? I think some people feel like its their duty or something. Now I'm only 19 and I think I'm old fashioned when it comes to most things, for instance I believe that a woman should be at home taking care of cleaning, cooking, laudry etc, and a man should be out there working and bringing home the bacon. I believe that aldultry is probably the worst thing under the sun that a person can do to someone they love and I believe in marriage and children before the age of 30. But GOOD GOD, these women who have four, five, six children or even more are honestly not mentally stable in my eyes. I mean sure if you're stinking rich and live in a mansion and enjoy not getting any sleep or time to yourself then why not? But most people, even those who love kids and want to raise them, also enjoy being their own person and not completelt devoting every waking moment to their millions of offspring. Also, contrary to what some people believe, your child isn't going to be lonely with only one or even no siblings. I'm an only child and I grew up with a happy childhood.

      Women should only be at home if they choose to. I can be a stay at home dad if I want to. Gender roles are ridiculous. I can't believe an atheist would think something like this seriously... Why force someone to be miserable I just don't understand this logic. If they want to be old fashioned, that's fine. But the "should" part? Seriously? Faith in humanity reduced ... :(

  • Energy, that's just my opinion on how it should be. Sure, if you want to have a career and focus all your time on self fulfillment instead of your family and have the nanny raise your children then hey, who's stopping you? I just believe that its a woman's place to be at home and a man's place is to be at work. What does me being an atheist have anything to do with what I believe a woman's role in the relationship should be?

      I generally agree with you, everything started going to shit after WWII when women HAD to work because all the prices went up. I only have one child but would have had two if I didn't have to work but its not even a choice, he doesn't make enough $ for me to stay home even though Id have preferred to have 2 kids and stay home rather than have one and work.
