I dont think rap is a talent.

I think rap,and rap artists are so overated and i don't consider it a talent. Most of the rappers rap about things they have never experienced, alot of times it makes no sense what their saying and i can barely understand what they are saying. For example: jay z..Huh!! What the hell is he saying. The rap artist are a bunch of old grown ass men getting paid to do nothing but run their ugly mouths, wear big ass jewelry and bow ties while chasing so called models, video hoe vixens and young strippers and passing them around and making babies. All i can say so untalented and so-so-so overatted!! For real.

Honestly, I'm not into rap myself, but I still support the few rappers that do have meaningful lyrics. I think everything requires some type of talent, especially when it comes to music. Though rapping isn't my thing, I am pretty sure it takes quite some skill to rap WELL (not like mainstream rap) because I've tried it and it just sounds plain stupid. It does sound like talking fast most of the time, which it is in a way, but it takes skill to keep the beat, rhythm, etc. and keep the song flowing. Mainstream rap does ruin it for a lot of people though, 'cause I do agree with that. A lot of rap nowadays sucks.

  • Rap used to be good in the 70s and 80s when they actually talked about real issues, nowadays its just a bunch of crap

  • have any of u haters out dere actually tried to freestyle rap... rappers like jay-z have ghost writers that write lyrics for them. rap is a talent if you can write what you feel into poetry that fits into a musical tempo.

You obviously haven't heard much rap and don't actually listen to the lyrics
Open your small mind once and awhile...I do agree that the mainstream rap is all the same about cars and bitches but underground and old stuff is bomb

The problem with rap is, it's no longer just one genre.

We got the idiots like Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, Jay Z, etc. All those idiots being played on the radio, and thereby people think that is rap and how it is meant to be. Where that actually is the kind of rappers that have given up on real music to get hoes and money instead. They usually only rap about how great they are themselves, and how everyone else sucks. To put them short: They have no respect for anybody (not even them selves), and lack creativity, and the only reason they are heard, is because the music industry wants to brainwash people to believe rap is wack, so young people will stop wanting to be gangsters. (OK, that didn't put them short)

Then we got the peeps who wants to make hoes and moneys, but isn't good enough at liking ass. Examples are Xzibit, Obie Trice (or something), "the old" Eminem, etc. To put them short: They still have some self-respect.

Then we got the underground white boys, such as Vinnie Paz, RA the Rugged Man, Ill Bill, Necro, etc. They don't want to get hoes or money or fame. They want to make music they love, and doesn't care if they will never make money on it. To put it short: Their songs MOSTLY are much deeper, because they make them out of love to the music, and not because they want something from it.

Then we have the underground black guys, like Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Immortal Techinque, etc. They still have that little "I wanna get hoes and money" -twist, but not enough to make them lose their love to the music. To put it short: Their songs can be deep, but also club bangers or "I'll fuck you up for no darn reason" -songs

So, as you might have figured out, I personally believe rap isn't a single genre anymore. And I know they're all different and how they are so, because I've heard and liked them all at different points in my life (though I'm ashamed to admit I liked Lil Wayne once; I was 8 or so, bear with me). However, I also admire people have different oppinions, so I respect you think rap sucks. I personally think pop sucks, and I cannot see how anybody can say Lady Gaga is music. But that's just my oppinion.

It's not singing. It's just talking, fast. No skill at all.

I'm not trying to be rude, but structurally speaking, it seems to be pretty easy. It is not prose and it certainly differs from singing. I figure it would take skill to write good music and meaningful lyrics. Rap was probably at its best in the 90's, when most of them were rapping from experience. Now it has become like every other commercialised genre. Now it is heavily auto-tuned and meaningless. I hate hearing about gangsters, getting dem hoes, sex, drugs, etc. It has become a parody.

I also don't like this new form of prose (?), called "Spoken word". It is basically like slower rapping that is an instrumental.

I takes skill to say it without sounding like a tard, but on most occasion I think a 12yr old could write better lyrics. That Mainstream rap crap is VASTLY overrated, however

Most mainstream hip-hop... frankly... it's pretty bad. Really bad. the trick is to not listen to any of that stuff. It's good to have a friend who's already gone through this process, so he can recommend you guys who rap in the underground scene, who are all pretty amazing. MF Doom and Del The Funky Homosapien are pretty fucking awesome.
