I dont really notice when people are autistic/mentally challenged

If they are functional as in can hold a job and a conversation, then I can't really tell if there is anything wrong with them until other people tell me. Even after talking to them many times I just think they have different interests from me. is it normal to not know when people are mentally challenged if they can function in public and hold a conversation?

  • I don't notice either unless their symptoms are severe but I'm autistic myself. I don't think it's too noticeable and I just seem eccentric but I get called on it occasionally when people get to know me.

I dont notice it either, but was told I am on the autistic spectrum. Honestly, I dont notice most social cues and get called out nearly everyday.
Have a tendancy to get annoyed by the small sounds someone's mouth is making while they speak, and stop listening to tune it out. People I live with get annoyed that I dont listen to them.

I have a hard time telling my self, unless they have a noticeable pitch/tone in their voice. There's a cart boy at the store I go to, and after he helped us for the first time, my grandmother says that there is something "off" about him and that he had to be "special" I honestly couldn't tell. I thought that he was normal. I still can't tell when I interact with him.

I always notice. Sorry to be the one who comes in all "yeahhh baby" but it's true. I'm usually the first to notice from what I've observed but that could just be from my keen interest with psychology/body language. I've always been known to see things like this right away.

I think if you don't notice, you're most likely a bit higher on the autistic spectrum. It doesn't necessarily mean you have it moderately but probably likely more than most. Because everyone is technically on that scale to begin with but some just have it more than others. To me, there's a distinct difference between someone with it and someone without.

If you can't identify autistic or even mentally challenged people, think about how you react to sarcasm. If you don't fully get it or don't at all understand it, you definitely have a fairly moderate form of aspergers yourself. This is totally fine btw as it's just a social problem and nothing more.
