I don't understand pictures!?

Okay so, I think I look pretty damn ugly. But sometimes I'll look in the mirror, and think yeh I look alright when I have make up on ect. I'm still not happy with myself though. Then on pictures I look completely different sometimes better sometimes even worse. And if I switch the camera around on my iPhone by god it is unbearable.
It's actually getting me down, how do people see me? Cause they are all different. :(

  • It's why I usually ask someone I know if a picture looks like me before I keep it, sometimes I take bad ones or even better ones, never an accurate one. I've found that if you take videos and then pause it and screencap them as pictures, then you usually have more accurate pictures, but not all the time.

I see this happen all the time with people I know, they have pictures that look nothing like them and then they worry if they are as unmattractive as the picture shows, when they really don't.

    • So is what I look like the mirror? Or the picture?

You usually see yourself (like if you were to create an image of yourself from memory) as you would in the mirror, but the camera reflects how other people see you (i.e. in a mirror, your face is inverted). That said, the camera doesn't truly capture what the eyes of other people see, but it is more accurate than how you would imagine yourself to look like in front of others based on a mirror image of yourself.

      • I would say it is what you look like in the mirror. If you are not sure, ask someone you know to look at the mirror and look at their reflextion and then them, then compare if they look like their reflextion, and if they do, then your reflextion will look like you. :)

It all depends on the quality of the camera, the angles, the lighting, the camera settings, etc. I thought I looked ugly in pictures until I discovered ways to make myself look as I actually do in real life. Cameras can distort things.

I feel ugly too. I embrace it. I'm a freak of nature and i'm proud of it.

It's all about the dollas, not the looks.
