For some reason, I have the feeling that practically everyone on is it normal is a true deviant, rather than actually a good portion of the population. Is this normal?
Out of all the sites I asked questions on, the people on IIN gave me the most intelligent and honest advice. The people I encountered on sites like Yahoo Answers, Meez, Facebook, etc were mostly judgmental bitches.
I tend to agree with you but I think there needs to be a distinction between normal, main stream, and just plain weird. As well as common, expected, and random. Just because something isn't common, does not automatically class it as weird or abnormal. Most people here are standard deviants. This is very normal for teensand young adults. Now if the baby boomers out there were asking the majority of the questions on this site, I would weep for society.
Isn't it odd that you would make this an IIN question, instead of a asking it somewhere else? How are you going to get good data from these deviants?
Everyone on here is a deviant. IIN seems to attract more weirdies apposed to what society would consider normal. Why I think people even come here. Since they are not sure if its "Normal" or not. Though often most of it isnt normal at all. You also have to realize this is the internet so the regulars are going to be bored people with nothing better to do then sit at a screen all day.
Despite there being people on here that I really respect and like i'd have to agree. The normal percentage on some of the posts i've seen has been insane plus I think some people must vote normal sometimes because they find it funny

The majority of people on this site apparently believe that both pedophilia and bestiality are normal. Enough said.
Yeah, it's the place for all the people that were wondering if they were normal... which, I guess means, they aren't.

There are definitely weirdos on this site. I don't help matters because I'm one of them. Sigh

People don't always answer on whether something is normal for them or if they do it themselves, but whether they think it's normal for the general population. It's still going to be skewed a bit, but no matter who you ask you would get skewed answers.
Can normality even be expressed numerically? "Is it normal not to want children?" today is on 92% normal right now, but what does 92% actually *mean* in the context of that question? Does the number itself have any function, or does it just mean "very normal"? At what number does something cross the line into "not normal", or does it have to be 100% and anything less is "only partially normal"? :P For a numerical system it's very subjective.
In most cases, your results will be skewed. You can't expect a proper answer on here in relation to the world population. This site is mostly younger people with time on their hand. Plus, the older generations don't really hang out on forums.
I don't honestly know if this site is a good approximation of what's normal. I know my opinions don't exactly match up to society's at all, but I'm unsure if that's a bad thing at all.
There's also the problem of people considering things normal simply because, as IIN users, we hear about the truly strange all the time and so I think that warps our perspective a bit. It desensitizes us to everything so much that I think we consider much more normal than does the average person on the street.
Imagine if a zombie Apocalypse happened. Only people from IIN were alive:

I think I'd trust them. It would be challenging enough just to find another person given how many people are here. I don't think I'd kill or eat another person if it's been months since I've seen another human being.
As for rape, I think we get the question about dogs a bit too often for me to worry about that one too much.
We have crazy here, but I don't think we have sociopaths.
There are some fucking idiots on here to be sure, but I have seen great advice from people who truly seem to care about the plight of others.
