I believe there is, or can be, some overlap in a healthy relationship between those roles - & I don't mean in the dirty minded IIN way.
A fathers role, to a daughter especially I guess, is to be the protector & provider when all is boiled down.
I'm sure there's that special "something", that bond, that will never be present in a partner but besides that I don't see a whole lot a father can provide that a partner (the right partner) can't.
Meanwhile a boyfriend CAN provide things a father can't (& of course a partner who acts like your father isn't likely to last long) & provide the things he did in a different way.
Oh my god. The words are in my head but they're not coming out right : |
A father is - ideally - someone who accompanies you from your birth until his (or your) death. In the early stages he is obligated to provide for you and to protect you.
A boyfriend is - ideally - an equal partner. You and he can create a foundation which will support and provide for you both. At no stage in life is he obligated to do anything for you.
A boyfriend is a voluntary role or position. Being a father is not necessarily voluntary.
That at least is my take on this, right off the top of my head.
