I don't do drugs, but i find the underground drug market interesting.

I should put an application in with the DEA or the UN. I like researching illegal drug trading. I don't do drugs unless the under-regulated vitamin supplement industry counts?

Huge global business. Billions of dollars. Wow! Very interesting. The ways that drug trafficking works? Stuff gets hauled across the Sahara into Europe. Its this huge market that goes on under everyone's nose. Yet, there's no business report. Its not like these 'companies' are mentioned in the WSJ. But, things are run like any other formal business.

the CIA has been bringing in black profits from drugs since the 60's and probably before. It's no wonder they want so desperately for drugs to be illegal. Just think how stupid it is for marijuana to be illegal when it's less harmful than alcohol. There's so much bullshit there it'll make your head spin when you really realize what's true. The fact that marijuana is classified a schedule I drug meaning it has no medical use and about half (or maybe less) of states have medical marijuana laws, shows that the federal law needs to be recognized as BULLSHIT and should just be dismantled and/or ignored by courts from now on.

As for the other drugs? well it can be hard to imagine legalized hard drugs, but regardless if you have anything illegal it creates a black market. It's kind of like when abortion became legal. It sucks to kill a fetus, but the alternative causes dead women getting illegal abortions. If all drugs were legalized, it'd get rid of mafias, hit men, all the horrible dangerous mafia dealings, rampant gunfire, etc. And plus addicts shouldn't be treated as criminals, but as sick people. It's ridiculous.

    • The CIA? They help create/retain advantages for some US entities. Pragmatism in my head, I have no problem with this. I'd honestly love to land a research job there. As far as improvements, they shouldn't flub up with international diplomatic issues. Sometimes people within this entity create unnecessary hassles.

You do know that even what is legal is filled with rampant corruption. Check out Transparency International's Corruption Index.

The mafia is not solely underground, they're imbedded within the formal organizations/regulating bodies too.

Abortion? That's just a junk issue that politicians throw at the public for distraction purposes.

Yes, make anything illegal? Black market sprouts up. It creates scarcity which inflates prices too. Good for business, I suppose.

I think keeping the relatively harmless drugs illegal is supported by heavy lobbying. The prison system is a business that wants to fill space to capacity to net more funding. In a way, crime pays. Its not all corrupt, but ah well c'est la vie.

If all the current illicit drugs were legalized? That would mean these products could be TAXED. What a revenue source, right? Ponder this.

Addicts shouldn't be treated as criminals? Exactly. You see, the rich addicts go to the Betty Ford Clinic where as the poor ones end up in a jail cell as a kind place to detox.

This has been fun. You raised good points to entertain me.

You'd love the silk road (recently got closed down) but there is a private browser out there that does let you buy drugs online! http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2476003,00.asp

I agree in that the subject is very interesting. The Vice Magazine did a little documentary on a Drug King somewhere in Eastern Europe, I can't remember where exactly. Anyway, he and his subjects lived underground in the sewers. It was so fascinating!

    • Eastern Europe? That's where everyone looks when some huge hacking scenario occurs. Estonia, Russia, out there somewhere. Brainy people with some serious computer nerd skills. I have pathetic tech skills. I merely try to keep my encrypted passwords variable, lol!

If you're curious here's an article....
Who are the top hacker countries in the world?
      http://geopolitech.tumblr.com/post/45767785188/hacker-power

Looks like the majority of attacks stem from the US at 35%. China pops up at 16.1%, what do ya know! The country with the most censorship, huh? No surprise. Ukraine pops up at 4% on one ranking. Ha, I've met enough computer science PhD's from there.

I know that the illicit drug trade is probably way more mainstream than aiming to traverse sewers. We're talking money laundering in the Caribbean islands. Government officials taking bribes to turn their eye. Ordinary communities likely funded by drug money. Its full of the usual business formula. You have accountants, records, administrators, high end logistics, all that stuff. I think its an industry that exists right under our noses.

Drugs? Cocaine I know built Miami,Florida. Geez!

Personally, I wouldn't take any of that stuff. I can't even tolerate caffeine. Oh, yes, the coffee trade? That's got some entertaining bits to it. The sugar industry? Oh boy, a can of worms.

I need to get back to my real work. Stop this diversion. :-P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwadpGdskCM This is it. I thought that it was by VICE but its not. VICE does have quite a few videos on Drugs, that should interest you. I'll come back to this. I'm so tired and dry, that I feel like I could just pass out!

Most economists would agree with your interests.

    • Do you read The Economist by chance? A professor started me on this. This magazine costs $150 for a subscription, much like the WSJ. I'm still getting TE at the student rate for under $80 bucks. Yippie!

Yes, there are people studying this stuff. Its not my forte. I mainly focus on epidemiology issues which sparked my curiosity over the global drug trade.
