I don't believe there is 7 billion people on this planet. iin?

I just don't believe it, I haven't seen nearly enough evidence to back this claim up. In fact everything I've seen disproves it. I don't think 7 billion is slightly off either, I think that number is WAY off.

I voted yes because I've also wondered about his, yet I was thinking that there are probably more as there could be millions unaccounted for, such as second children born illegally in China for instance.

    • I have a feeling though that such variables are accounted for through complex calculus, and that data is gathered from many different sources. Official data is not analyzed casually.

Think about all those "primitive" lost cultures that are out there. A few years ago, a lost tribe was discovered in South America when a airplane flew over their home. They had no idea what it was and started throwing projectiles at it.

      • Yeah but there aren't too many of those. I'm sure they have very rough estimates for that demographic and besides they're such a minority that their numbers wouldn't alter the figure much.

Somehow, I doubt you have more information on world population than the people taking the census.

Wow. And I thought I was an idiot. Why don't you do the research that you are so desperately seeking. Take a little road trip and start counting. Get back to us with your proven results.
Where are you trying to find this proof that eludes you? What would be proof enough for you? Are you a paranoid freak who thinks everything is a lie?
Come out of your bubble. No...better stay in there, its too scary out here.
One more thing, what is your estimated world population?

  • myownopinions

You're right! There aren't 7,000,000,000 people in the world. There's actually 7,073,303,582 (and counting) people.

Therefore, the 7 billion estimate is actually "way off" by about 7.3 million people.

    • You sound like a nazi. People in less developed, poorer countries tend to reproduce more as a way of investing in the future- once the kids grow up they will be able to take over the duties of the parents'. Whether or not it is a great idea, this is statistically proven to be a universal rule. Every country, every nation goes through this stage during economic development. How much people choose to procreate has nothing to do with intelligence.

Some of you are being quite harsh to OP.

The estimation is based on various sources of varying accuracy. It could be more, it could be less, but it's at least an educated guess, and as close to the actual number as we're likely to get. A degree of scepticism is healthy, but if you're going to claim that the population is significantly less than the reported figures, you have to support your claim with evidence - otherwise there's no reason to be any less sceptical about your figures.

there are at least 7 bilion people listed. Ecause when you get born, your parents enlist you in your country, so you can go to school and uch, and so that you have a REAL identity. There are probably more than 7 bilion people because there are a lot of children that have neve been enlisted after birth. So, basically you're kind of stupid by refusing to believe.

You think there are a lot more, or a lot less? And why?

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • A lot less. Why? Because the methods used to estimate will err on the high side. That's all the 7B figure is, a VERY rough estimate. Look at some of these countries! Do you really think they have accurate data?

Data is compiled by all kinds of agencies. What makes you think you know better than them, with the greatest of respect?

Check the census. What I would really liked to know is the exact number of life that inhabits this planet. There's already (approx.) 7+ billion people. What are the statistics for botany or sea creatures? What about the overall statistics for this Galaxy, The Milky Way, or the entire Universe?! Which leads to the other part of my comment:

Overpopulation would be less of a concern if we lived on a Super Earth that had the right climate for growing food and large amounts of vital natural resources. If this where the case they we probably wouldn't have to worry about overpopulation for quite awhile.

Our planet is already overpopulated. We need to start thinking of new ways to control/overcome this. We could learn to live in the ocean or other bodies of water either by evolution or by creating reliable technology that would allow humans to build sustainable underwater communities. Or, and more excitingly, we could make more of an effort to find habitable planets. It would be nice to see Mars and Venus capable of being habited. However, there's already proof of Mars sustaining lifeforms and evidence of civilizations on the moon:D It would take some time to terraform a planet just like it would take time to find habitable planets in other systems. Once these planets are found you have to think about some factors. 1. Is the planet already habited? 2. How much time and money it would take to send rockets with scientists to properly set up base and research this planet. 3. How close or how far is this planet from a heat source? 4. Is this planet mostly land or mostly water? etc.

Let's say that humans did try to colonize a planet. If the planet is already home to other lifeforms, especially of the intelligent sort, conflicts might arise which could lead to wars. What if the conditions on this planet prove to be dangerous to us? What if we humans end up destroying that planet like we have ruined our own?

I'll admit I sometimes have a hard time thinking that there a over 7 billion different lives, each with their own opinions, likes, dislikes, lovers, etc... It's just mind mindbogglingly crazy. Just remember, the world is a lot bigger than you think it is.

I actually sort of understand this one -- but to me, there seems to be far more. I know that 7,000,000,000+ (or whatever the figure is, I can never find any one number that is agreed upon) is probably as close to accurate as we're going to get, though.

I can't believe there is such a small amount of people if you narrow it down a billion is one millions lots of one million and it is only 7 times that. When you think about the size of the world, there are probably cities countries even that we have not heard of so to me 7 billion seems a rather small ammount of people. Also people are being born and dying constantly so can the population stay at 7 billion. xx

I agree that it is a rough estimate, but it is an educated guess. What is your theory based on, your eyes? Why don't you take a tour of Beijing, Mexico City, New York, Mumbai, Sao Paolo, London, etc.

There is a lot of real thought behind the calculation of the world population. Birth and death records only tell a part of the story, but it isn't made up. There are many cracks filled with forgotten people.
