I don't agree with democracy.

The term democracy usually refers to a system of government in which laws are passed, officials are elected, and other statutes are set based on majority opinion. Because I tend to take minority stances on major issues (abortion, criminal justice, etc.), democracy is therefore my enemy. I don't care if the will of the majority is obeyed, because I am me, and not anyone else. However, totalitarian government is just as likely to dissatisfy me, so I suppose I am an anarchist by default. I like the system of government used by cats, bears, mustelids, etc.; "self-government." Of course, this wouldn't work for humanity as a whole, and would result in chaos. But I don't care, I only care about myself. Is this normal?

What government isn't a government by the people? How could any one man take control without the direct or indirect consent of the people?

Even in a dictatorship the people decided on that form of government when they allowed themselves to be culled in fear.

But here's a better question: If people aren't allowed to vote on who becomes a doctor and who doesn't (because of our lack of knowledge) why are people allowed to vote on who leads their nations when they have no idea what's going on around them? Yet it seems wrong to deny people the ability to influence a nation they're apart of.

In a true democracy, every single decision would be a referendum of every living citizen (even the underage, the imprisoned, and illegal aliens) and politicians would be responsible for explaining what our choices meant, rather than making those choices for us.

It's more practical to exclude people from the vote based on age or circumstance and to elect representatives who loosely share some of our world-view to then make decisions on everything, whether we like it or not. The electoral process is nearly democratic. The government process most certainly isn't. We still refer to it as democracy, though, even though if every political party has committed to war and you don't want war, you have no say whatsoever (apart from protest). Your democratic right to decide has been denied to you as surely as if you lived in a dictatorship. The ruling party is a temporary dictator; one you voted in (or maybe didn't) and have the power to add your single voice to voting them out after a set period of time.

Normal. I have actually been veering more into other government types. It would be nice if I country could follow True Democracy.

I don't think there is a need for government or laws, since people are going to disobey rules anyway. I think there would be less violence in a world without government. We wouldn't have people telling us how to live, therefore, we wouldn't always be so miserable. I sometimes wish we were animals with no government. Cats always seem so happy. All they do is lay around the house all day.

If it was at all possible, i'd take a bunch of people who are fed up with government and rules, and bring them to mars, so we can start our own planet where anything goes. No rules, just don't kill anybody.

Democracy is most certainly not your enemy; you just don't live in one. The word comes from the Greek "demos" meaning people and means government by the people. That means all people, including you. What you live in, I guess, is a government of a few elected people. That's not democracy.

    • I am not one of "the people". There are two groups of human beings:

      1.) Me.
      2.) Everyone else.

I believe this, everyone else believes that.
I do this, everyone else does that.

      Democracy is my prison.

I disagree with democracy as well. Mob rule sucks. Especially when there are more idiots in the world than smart people. :P

However, I cannot think of a better solution that democracy.
