I destroyed my house while drunk

I drank twice as much as I usually do last night and ended up smashing a bunch of furniture and dishes into the walls. I remember some but not all of it. I don't even think I was mad at anything. Is it normal to lose control like this?

Repeat after me, my name is OP, and I'm an alcoholic.

        • I would rather not subject myself to brainwashing techniques that are repackaged for uneducated alcoholics.

If there are missing pieces, you blacked out. Blackouts are your body's way of telling you that you've been doing too much drinking, too frequently. Alcohol is basically a poison. Especially when consumed irresponsibly. I hope you arent living in a rental.

It may be your first but more usually follow. Depends on how much you drink. I suggest not getting shitfaced. Next time it could be so much worse.

Get to AA ASAP. My stepfather was an alcoholic and made all our lives miserable doing that stuff.

My second ex husband was most likely an alcoholic, I divorced him after less than three months.

Thanks, I just couldn't stand it, I felt like I'd be ruining my life if I stayed with him. Being with him gave me so much anxiety that I thought I was gonna die.

Yeah, you probably would have ruined your life for the most part. My mother lived with it for 30 yrs until he finally had to give up drinking because it ruined his health. He just died a few months ago and my mother purged a lot of stuff to me, like how miserable she was all those years, but stayed with him for us kids. That made me kind of mad because we were miserable too and would probably have been better off if they'd have split up.

For the safety of others, do NOT drink alcohol around other people

  • I did it in the early days of my alcoholism. Smashed a DVD player and punched a hole in the apartment door. Repressed rage, I guess. Finally got sober some years later, after many more drunken, destructive scenarios. If you can't stop yourself from taking the first drink, there's no way you can stop yourself from taking the second, third, fourth, etc.

Of course it's normal. That's why when you go to other peoples' homes they are shit holes just like yours, right?

Not normal, but also not uncommon. I've gotten home from an extended evening out, one thing goes wrong, as in, hit my arm on the table, maybe miss when tossing my jacket, whatever..And it sets me off sometimes. You just need to control yourself and not do it. Going to have to clean up later anyway, so, why bother destroying stuff?

I've only done it at my own house, nobody else's. And never hurt myself in the process.

Nope. Not normal.Even when I'm really fucked up I don't do things that stupid.

Lol this is not an uncommon occurrence. Try getting shitfaced off some alcohol, then take 5-10 2mg xanax. You'll not only smash up your ENTIRE HOUSE but you'll wake up 4 days later without a single memory

Dude - U trashed the house this time.
Next time it could be your life that you trash.
Don`t take that chance - prevention is BETTER than cure.
Act NOW whilst you STILL have your health !!!

Some people tend to lose it when they drink, but it's not normal. If you're that outta control when you drink, you probably should quit drinking.
