I crack my knuckles all the time....

I like to crack my knuckles, even thought I know it is bad for my hands. Well, I can also crack my finger beside my thumbs repeatedly. Usually people can crack their knuckles once on each finger, but on one of my fingers I can do it over and over again. Sometimes I also crack my wrist...so is that normal??

I can crack virtually every joint in my body. All my vertebrae, my coccyx (tailbone!), shoulders, elbows, wrists, thumbs, all three joints in my fingers, my hips, my knees, my ankles, my feet (at the ball of my foot, the part that bends when you step), and all of my toe knuckles.
When I get up in the morning it sounds like bubble wrap! :D
Also, it does nothing to you medically. All the arthritis stuff was disproved. It's fun, feels good, and is handy when you want to gross someone out or impress a kid (say when babysitting).
    Crack away!

There is no evidence to prove that cracking your knuckles is bad for your joints although people who crack their knuckles often have decreased strength in their hands over time. This is because you're always stretching the tendons and ligaments of the fingers and palm. I think the most commonly supported theory is that the cracking sound is caused by gases that build up in the little fluid-filled capsules that cushion your joints. When you stretch or compress the capsule the gas creates a bubble that "pops". Or so they say.....it's a really difficult habit to break. I only pop my pointer and middle fingers for some reason and I seriously can't stop. If it feels they need to be popped, I can't get it out of my head until I do it, or my fingers feel stiff.

But in answer to your question, yes it's absolutely normal.
