I consider my creations to be my own inventions.iin?

I get so pissed of when people say 'oh some other guy already invented/said.did that'.

Look dude, I didn't know that. I made this shit up in my own mind without the knowledge or help of anyone else so as far as I'm concerned, I invented it.

There's 7 billion people on the planet. To think that npo 2 people have ever had the same idea is stupid. I worked just as hard as any other dude who 'invented' this or that. Just because I didn't patent it doesn't make it less mine or less original, provided I knew nothing of it before I 'invented' or made it.

is it normal to think this?

If it helps, something similar happened to me this very weekend. For a couple of months I've been kicking around an idea. What I ideally wanted would be to launch something and have it escape the earth's gravity. I did my sums and it's just not possible with the means available to me. So the next idea was to get a camera so high that I could get pictures such as you'd see from a rocket.

You know the kind of stuff; curvature of the earth, cloud systems, the outlines of whole countries. I did my sums there and, technically, it would be possible (although I'm still thinking about how to stop the camera from freezing and how to get it to transmit the images. I considered writing an app for the cheapest mobile phone I could buy that has a decent camera, and have it MMS me the images).

Anyway, I thought about it in earnest this weekend and started doing some research. That's when I found out that some guy did it earlier this week and made some science news sites. And he's English, and he's younger than me. Very annoying! It's like he's taken my idea and, worse, done it for publicity! I'm still going to experiment with this stuff, but I was really rather miffed.

  • I know I have a brown hair therefore I don't care if anyone else recognizes it.

You know that invention is yours so why does it bother you if others don't recognize it?

I wish Apple would learn that lesson. They're clogging up all the news with their war on Samsung.

Do they seriously think that people at Samsung are bored enough to open iPads to see what they Apple are doing with all the Samsung parts they are buying to copy it in their own products?

They make the stuff, they know very well how it works and what it does.

You did invent it. It because other people are looking through your window and stealing your idea.

Other people don't really matter in things like that.

My last band used to write other people's songs.. I mean, they didn't know, cause sometimes they didn't even know the artist and etc. But it's still plagiarism. You have to be original, man.. That's the tricky part.

I think that would make you equally as creative as the people that got there first. To be annoyed by people saying to you that you idea is less creative or less "yours" because of someone else having already done it entirely independently of you is understandable because they're wrong.

Same thing happened to me this week - I made up this kick-ass song that goes... "She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah ..." and guess what? (It's been done ...).

An idea can be original to you, but not to your culture. Still, having original ideas means you are being creative which is great and will get you places.

When I was younger, I would have plenty of ideas for writing a book, and at that time, they were totally original. But, sometimes, the new books I read have almost if not completely the same concepts of the books ideas that I used to have. So if I ever do make a book out of one of my ideas as a kid, I'd probably be labeled as somebody who just copied off of a famous author.

    Normal.

Yeah I completely agree.... but maybe you make something up because you saw a version of it ages ago but you can't remember...

I feel the exact same way, actually. I would have thought that this is normal.
