I am thinking of like IT by Stephen King, without the horror element. Just a nice story of different people's lives. No romcom bullshit. Know any decent movies like that ? Especially, ones made in 90s or earlier.
It's not the best movie but I really enjoy A Life Less Ordinary.

These aren't too sappy and have surrounding interesting plots.
Dr Zhivago is good and Princess bride is fun, although not what I had in mind

I don't have anything pre-90s for you but here is some shit I like:
If you are up for a 2 hour and 45 minute French lesbian love story than I highly recommend "Blue is the Warmest Color".
"Her" is another 2 hour investment but is interesting and thought-provoking as well as a sweet love story.
"Atonement" is a beautiful love story and an emotional rollercoaster of a movie. 2 hours.
"Requiem for a Dream" is kind of a love story, but more with drugs than with people. Hour and 45 minutes.
I would recommend Before Sunrise, or Dogfight.
If you want a more recent one, Once.

I think one of my favourite love stories that isn't necessarily a romcom and has an interesting story is "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" but in some ways that can be considered a romcom. Still highly recommend though.
If you want a really good movie with some romantic elements in it (in terms of romantic love), I would suggest a movie called "The Air I Breathe". One of my favourites. It's a bit psychological, has a very good cast, and an even more incredible story and art direction. If you're looking for a movie about different people's lives and how they intertwine with each other, this is the one for you.
On the note of very good movies (that aren't romcom and that follow the lives of different people) you might want to try a French film called "The Intouchables". Not about romantic love, but about the love of friendship between two people.
Also, another very good movie (with excellent story and cinematography) is "The Fall", which is easily one of my favourites. It has some forms of romance in it, and also has that friendship element in it as well.
