Reason I hate people coughing? Simple, it is DISGUSTING. My brain associates it with disease spreading contagions. Mostly, I can't tolerate the abrupt noise. I jump. It's physiological punishment. I f'ing hate it! If someone has a truly occasional cough, fine, that won't piss me off. If some p.o.s. has a chronic cough like I've entered a pneumonia asylum for the respiratory impaired, I secretly wish the person to asphyxiate on the spot to be freed from their disturbance to the peace!!!

I guess I have selective misophonia?
This is one of the few noises I cannot cannot cannot tolerate.
Anyone else?

Coughing cretins!!!!! Really, cover your damn mouth! Don't be so freaking rude! I just wish I could beat them as punishment for their rudeness. Everyone coughs, but rudeness is intolerable to me. Chronic coughing is a public disturbance. Intolerable disruption!!!

Don't worry, I don't act out on my hate. But, I have been known to give the coughing bastard a tissue, water, and try my best to shoo them out the door.

    Right with you. Not so much for the germs stuff (though that's a concern), but the annoying, interrupting noise. Hate it, and want to tell the person to either stop, or leave the room. Or, I walk out myself. Was next to guy at the sports bar I go to one night, he started hacking away, and I stood up, silent, took my beer, and went to the bar's patio until looking in and seeing the guy was gone. Just couldn't take being next to him hacking like that.

    Ex wife would eat cheese or dairy, knowing what it did to her, and hack cough or, worse..do the throat-clear thing until I'd tell her to go into a different room, and close the door.

    I dislike coughing at times in my life, for example when my father is eating and starts coughing, it puts me off, he doesn't cover his hand at all, your situation is normal but to be honest it seems like you're overreacting.

    Well coughing isn't really a choice when you're asthmatic. Still I cover my mouth or leave the room if I'm haveing a coughing fit. I wouldn't wish death on someone for that though.
